Can't activate Windows 8.1 due to product key issue

Can I get help with this please? I found two keys using Belarc Advisor. I tried both but they didn't work for me at all. Can someone please help? I have Windows 8.1 (Build 9600).

Update on mine. I purchased from G2A.com a windows 8.1 Pro key for £26 ($40 ish). Worked perfectly. Bummer I had to end up buying one thanks to the person that built my PC but hey, cheap enough. Thanks for all your help guys.

ABY660: This may be the way you will need to go. Nothing seemed to work for me.

The BBBB- is a placeholder for MAK keys. They are removed from the registry for security reasons. Unfortunately you will have to contact your Volume Licencing Centre to get it.

You're welcome ... are you guys still using the old vbs file? The .Net version has a lot more functionality :D

Hello. I'm having issues activating my windows as well. Had to do a system restore and been having this issue since then. All the product key finders are showing me a different OEM key than the installed product key. All of them except Superfly's. The vbs file from earlier in this thread is telling me that the OEM key cannot be found.

Please help me solve this issue.

EDIT: Ignore me. I'm an idiot. Now my issue is that neither the OEM key nor the installed key are allowing me to activate Windows. I have checked that the OS installed is the right now.

Now I bother Microsoft and Dell with my questions.

Thank you very much for your script, Superfly. It is incredibly helpful.

No prob.... Glad you got the version checked - if you want, post a WDT diagnostic report and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of it.

It took me a minute to realize WDT was not Watchdog timer. Your diagnostic program has been running for ten minutes now. Is that excessively long?

While I'm waiting, background: Recently purchased a Dell Laptop (Dell Inspiron 5547) which came preinstalled with Windows 8.1. However, after an update the laptop was caught in a loop of update failed. After trying to resolve the issue several times, I gave up and restored the laptop to Factory settings. After this, my system keeps asking me to activate Windows, but each time I click activate online, I get a message saying Windows can't activate online. It also shows me the last 5 digits of the current product key, which I did not have. After some digging I learned the product key was available in the BIOS and was finally able to view it after downloading a program to look at the firmware. The key shown had the last 5 digits as the current product key I viewed earlier. When I tried using that key to activate my system I received this message "The key didn't work, please check it or try a new key"

Got this output from your script:

Product Name: Windows 8.1 Single Language

Product ID: 00262-30110-00000-AAOEM

Installed Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-PWD3X

OEM Key: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-8K7QX

OEM Edition: Win 8.1 RTM CoreSingleLanguage OEM:DM

Currently worried about the difference between Win RTM and Win, but I don't think I'll be able to download RTM from anywhere.

Edit: Still nothing from WDT. And it's nearly midnight. Giving up for now. Will try again in the morning.

Nope, it shouldn't take that long... try closing and running again - if nothing after a few minutes try the legacy scripts here

Interestingly both your keys are Win 8.1 OEM single language (BTW that RTM version can be downloaded from MS via the media creator tool)
We will need to get the error on activation tho'...

Spent today on the phone with Dell Support. My issue was a corrupted restore. I had to reinstall windows using Dell Restore and System Backup. It had a Factory settings image saved which I used. My install key now matches the OEM BIOS key.

Just FYI, I was unable to use the latest WDT. Used one of the legacy versions. It gave an error code that said something about invalid input value. I didn't save the output of the WDT in my external harddisk, so it is unfortunately lost.

Thank you for all the help!
