Just tried it again. WDT latest version works perfectly.

You may not have done anything to help me in particular, but you created some very helpful tools that have me an idea of what I had to do to fix my problem. If it hadn't been for your tools I would've delayed in calling Dell support for at least a day or two.

Awesome.... Thanx

I need to build some more error handling into WDT (it runs on a separate thread.. errors that are not caught and reported back, gets lost.. it then goes into la-la-land)

I have uninstalled my present Product Key by typing this "slmgr /upk". How can I recover it? I didn't have any DVD or Label when I bought my surface pro 3.
Thanks for help.

How to view Windows 8/8.1 OEM product key from UEFI firmware (BIOS).

Open the command prompt and type (or copy and paste) the following command.

Code:
WMIC Path SoftwareLicensingService Get OA3xOriginalProductKey
View Windows 8 product key from UEFI firmware.png

Thanks a lot.
By this way, I found the product key, but whenever I decide to add features to Windows 8.1 from Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Update, it shows a message: This key won't work. Check it and try again, or try a different key.
How it works?

What edition does Showkey display for the key?

I have updated this script to show both the installed key and OEM bios key.... See if they match

Yes it worked! It brought up the OEM key. Every other key finder gave me a wrong one but that worked perfectly. Thanks a million for that. Thanks to everyone else who replied as well.
I had the same problem and this worked for me too!! :) Big thanks to Superfly :D

Wow... this trouble just to activate. I ran ShowKey and it says OEM not found. All I did was a factory reset and now I cannot activate. Hmmmm

Where did you buy the PC? The OEM key should be in the chip, may need to contact the seller.

Please make sure you use ShowKeyPlus... it's fully compatible with all versions Win 7 through Win10.

The old version (Showkey.vbs 1.3) won't recognize Win 8 keys (it's Win 8.1 specific)

thank you, you brilliant man
LOL... Thanx, you're welcome.

I had the same problem. I actually downgraded my laptop from Win 10 to Win 8.1 cuz it was lagging a lot (I have a low RAM). So i made a clean install of Win 8.1 (torrent downloaded) but couldn't fix the key problem.
You made my day. Thanks! @Superfly :)
