Solved Cannot Disable Hibernate

Hello. I don't know why this is happening, it is so inconvenient and annoying.

I've tried all possible solutions to disable Hibernate (in order to remove hiberfil.sys), yet they don't work.

Can you please post any help on this? I will confirm if I've tried that and if not, I'll try it.


One guaranteed method is to restart the computer in Ubuntu, but I have BitLocker enabled. I don't want to disable it, because:
1) I have to wait for it to decode all files,
2) Open drive in Ubuntu
3) Delete hiberfil.sys
4) Open Windows and recode all files again.

That is an inconvenient waste of time. What do you suggest instead?

Have you tried opening a command prompt aas Administrator and typing powercfg.exe /hibernate off

When I do that, it would look like Hibernate is getting disabled (where the hard drive LED on the computer turns on, stays on for 30 seconds or so, then turns off, yet now the computer is frozen.) So I wait for a few minutes assuming that it should be disabled for sure, and shut off the computer by holding down the power button. I turn the computer back on crossing my fingers, but nope, that big 8 GB muther is still there.

Bitlocker encrypts all the operating system files?

It's set to encrypt the whole entire hard drive. I have this main drive and two other external disks connected to the computer. Those other two disks don't have encryption on them, I can unplug them and plug them into a different computer, and they would work. Also, Ubuntu can read those two disks, I can see every file on them in that different operating system. Yet the main disk is encrypted with BitLocker. So when I load Ubuntu, I only see the two external disks and their files. I cannot see the main hard drive at all.

Then I think you're going to have to do the thing that's "inconvenient" to fix your problem.

Sounds like you shot yourself in the foot, and you need a bandage. Eh?

Can't you just turn off Bitlocker, disable Hibernate and then re-enable Bitlocker?
Maybe I'm over-simplifying the job. Or is that just too logical?

I disable Hibernate on every PC that I set up. And, then when I reboot the PC, I find that the Hiberfil.sys file is GONE.
I have two methods to quickly disable Hibernate, without having to type in any commands or otherwise jump through any hoops.
One is a batch file and the other is a VBScript, but they both work when "Run as Administrator".

philetus: Yea, you're probably right, it's just I was hoping that I can find some other way before doing all that. See, the weird stupid thing that happens is that every time I "Shut Down" or "Restart" the computer, it tends to want to Hibernate instead, and freezes. I don't know how the hell the hackers did some stupid crap like this.
TechnoMagic: Stupid hackers shot me in the foot and now I need surgery, not a band aid.
And yes, I was looking for another method other than this last-resort method of disabling BitLocker, loading this drive in a different operating system (I think you left this part out), delete the file, then re-enable BitLocker back in Windows. But hey, you know what, can you please attach those two files that you have, or at least copy-paste what you have written in them so I can try those out before doing the long and annoying stupid useless process that I shouldn't ever have to deal with.

Ok thanks to TechnoMage, he helped convince me to wait for some time for it to delete. I used the powercfg command, so the computer froze, but I said Eff it and used the bathroom for like 10 minutes. Apparently, I had to wait an extended period of time until the computer wants to become responsive. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever, because whenever things like this happen, It's the hackers that got into this computer and make thing impossibly difficult. Anyone have a suggestion for a really extended thorough system scan that wil scan for extreme viruses, and every security loop hole setting on the computer?

I need something that's REALLY advanced, since the really good programs don't catch these viruses and security vulnerabilities.

The best way is a anti-virus that runs at boot from a USB drive.
