Cannot change screen resolution to 1600 X 900

My Monitor has been showing stretched-out images lately. I knew that my screen resolution is not right. I tried to change the screen resolution but there were only two options (1024 X 768 & 1280 X 1024) but none worked. It is my old monitor so I know that the correct resolution is 1600 X 900. Then I went to 'Advanced settings' and clicked on 'List All Modes'. It displayed 2 more options (640 X 480 & 800 X 600) but it didn't matter. I also unchecked the 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display' checkbox under Monitor tab to see if it added 1600 X 900 resolution, but no. I checked if the adapter and monitor drivers were updated. They were.

I know this is a driver problem but I don't know what to do.

My PC Specs:
Processor: Pentium Dual Core CPU E5400
RAM: 2 GB
OS: Windows 8 64-bit
Display Adapter Type: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
Monitor Type: Compaq Q2009 Series Wide LCD Monitor
No graphics card

Any help will be appreciated.

Does that CPU have integrated graphics? I can't find anything that says it does. Are you sure you have no graphics card? What make/model of computer is it?

With basic display drivers you probably can't render the higher resolution. When you go to Device Manager and choose to update the display adapter driver, then choose from list, what options does it give?
