Hello everyone!!
I just bought a new laptop with windows 8 on and I m a bit lost but trying to find my way around it...lol
I installed the yahoo messenger for windows 8 and I noticed that everytime I open a chat window with my contacts, the video call and call button are disabled and it says something like the other person doesn t have the right settings to make a video call???
I m pretty confused, I hope I can still do video calls on yahoo.
I also got skype but yahoo for windows 8 seems a bit more similar to the messenger for windows 7...
Anyways, any help will be appreciated, thank u guys!!

Yes, of course. Just go to the Yahoo messenger web site and download and install it.

oh ok let me try that..
I thought there was only one version for windows 8 and that was the one I installed...
I m gonna try and let u know, thank u so much for your help!!

no luck... I re installed it but it s the same version, I cannot find that desktop version you are talking about...
The one I have installed looks very similar or the same as the one I had on windows 7 but it s still not letting me make video calls or calls :(

Sorry, I thought you had originally installed a Windows Store version of it, I see now that there isn't a Windows Store version of Yahoo Messenger yet.

There is no specific Windows 7 or Windows 8 version of messenger. The version may be different than what you have on Windows 7, but that's just because they have upgraded the current version. If you re-downloaded it and installed on Windows 7 it would be the same version.

There is nothing specific here that should prevent video calls, unless your camera is not installed properly.

that s really weird cause my camera is set up on yahoo and I added the camera on the devices list on windows 8...
I m gonna keep on trying...
Thanks for trying to help!!
I ll let u know if I figure it out :)

I have found some references to the latest Yahoo messenger not working with video calls on Windows 8, so it may be a Yahoo Messenger problem. If so, you have a couple of options:

  1. Download an older version of Yahoo Messenger. Version 10 apparently works. I won't give any links because I don't know which ones you can trust.
  2. Download Windows Live Messenger. You can login to Live Messenger with your yahoo email (they work together), but i'm uncertain whether or not video works across the services.. I know messages do. But I think it works. Be aware, however, Microsoft is shutting down Live Messenger in a couple months.
  3. Skype has taken over for Live Messenger, and you can log into Skype with your yahoo or microsft account just like Messenger. Again, I don't know for sure that video calls work between the services, but I think they do.

Thank u so much again Mystere!
Yeah I ve been researching and it seems the latest version is not compatible with windows 8....
I don t like the new skype for windows 8 much but If i could put my yahoo and skype together that would be great!!
I know I can add the hotmail messenger to skype but I didn t know I could add yahoo messenger too...
I m gonna try!
Thanks again!!

Again, you don't have to use the Windows store version of Skype. You can download the desktop client.
