Welcome to the windows 8 forum.

Most programs during the initial setup phase allow a choice between default and customization of the location for the program and it's files. Some files are required to be installed in the programs directory and some in the windows directories.
Just the way it is. but select customize and most allow you to install on another drive and directory.

I've tried the win7 fix of changing the registry default install but it doesn't work, some programs still install to the (80gb SSD) c drive which is almost now full after 5 days. Its really annoying, surely there is a way to just lockout the c drive and keep it OS only?

Hello Rich

yes I'm aware of the option that appears when installing. The problem is many of us have small SSD intended to hold the OS only. Many many many installs do not give you the option to change the install location, if they all did there would be no problem. I've also changed the default install drive from C to D in the registry but some programs (and also data) continue to install onto C. The registry tweak worked in win 7, whats the difference with Win 8?

My 80GB c drive is down to 7gb free and its a real pain having to use AppMover or similar to shift them

The kind of program that will not give you the option I very small, and the option is often only available when you choose custom at install.

Can you give us an example of programs you will like to see on another drive and can't be redirect at install. Because if I look in my PC, may be, I say may be Google was the only one, as I don't remember

...but wait a minute the Metro Apps I don't think you can change their location, if so , another epic fail.
