I was using my laptop okay last night then all of a sudden the connection dropped (this was via a TP-Link Powerline unit). This happens at least once an evening so I power cycled the Powerline unit as usual and no luck. To cut a long story short, after some experimentation I determined that neither the local network connection OR the WiFi connection worked (determined by connecting a LAN cable directly from my laptop to my router and also placing the laptop near the router for WiFi access). However, I CAN connect to my local network okay.
Have checked all of the network settings but can't see anything wrong.
