At start, goes into Automatic Diagnosis and Repair Mode. I have followed all instructions to no avail - always end up with not able to repair. I can get to Startup Menu if I press f8 and get to System Recovery (f11) and then to Troubleshoot option and Recovery Manager. Recovery Manager brings me to a screen with two options: System Recovery (that apparently wipes out all files and programs except original), and File Backup Program. The File Backup Program is what I want but is blocked out and doesn't allow me to select . At right hand bottom of screen there's is a button that says Contact HP Support. I have read everything I can find online with no apparent solution. I don't have any System Restore points (it says) and no other media to use to restore. I would really like to be able to restore files and programs - any ideas? BTW,my daughter thinks she may be able to download the entire content of the drive to a thumb drive from some manual process but not sure how. That would be okay if it worked and then could reset to original and load the data back on. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.
