BSOD that started occuring after playing

Hey,

(This thread is also post somewhere else, as I am not sure which site could help me better, forgive me for that!)

For a start: Zip file attached. There was also a text VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (atikmpag.sys) on the BSOD itself, so I feel like it's related to a GPU (using a HP ENVY m6-1253eo laptop with AMD HD Radeon 7670M).

My PC was acting weird at some points, where games' graphics crash and lead to "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" popup. After shutting down the game, normally using the computer was okay and had no problems in it. Though, after some time, I got a BSOD and eventually caused PC to loop startup -> desktop -> BSOD -> repeat, so it wasn't just a problem during gaming.

So far, I've tried a repair installation for Windows 8.1, after that I was able to access the desktop but after a while, a BSOD happened again (when the GPU shows in Device Manager). However, before the repair installation, I wasn't even able to get to the "Welcome" screen - a BSOD happened immediatelly after the HP logo went off the screen after pressing the start button, so maybe that's progress?

Disabling the GPU through Device Manager helps to avoid the BSOD, but after Windows auto-detects the GPU, screen starts flickering and then causes BSOD. Even though I am sure my drivers are up-to-date (I have checked that every now and then), I also tried checking if the drivers can be updated through safe mode, but AMD's program is not recognizing my GPU now.

Even though I have my own thoughts that the GPU might be dead, I am still hoping to be able to recover it by some means. Please, ask any further questions if needed - I'll do my best trying to answer!

You seem to be using mixed memory which is not recommended due to specs conflicts.
Do you know how to remove the 2GB memory stick?

I think I do, it's been on that HP from the very beginning, and I've had that laptop for the last 4.5 years. It's been running without any problems for that time. Could that really be the cause for the issue, and why?

Yes, it could be.

The modules do not match in specs, you're very lucky is what I can tell you.

I just removed the 2GB stick, leaving the 4GB stick on. I got into the desktop, but then BSOD happened again.

EDIT: After the last BSOD, the computer now gives BSOD after the loading screen with HP logo in it, it no longer loads into the desktop.

Went into safe mode, and checked the recent BSOD with BlueScreenView. Noticed it's a different one, so here's the ZIP file attached.

Can you help me a bit with that? I've tried checking for driver updates using the program provided by AMD, but it doesn't recognize my graphics card when using safe mode (which is currently the only one I am able to use that now).

This is my typical instructions for AMD display drivers
Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from HP or Windows Update. Be sure to install as less as possible software using custom/advanced options, you can use this tutorial to do so :ar: AMD Graphics Drivers - Install Without Catalyst Install Manager - Windows 7 Help Forums

Thanks a lot! I've always thought that using AMD Catalyst is the best way to install drivers. This can be done in safe mode by following the link you gave me, right?

Managed to remove the drivers using safe mode. After PC booted to its normal state, everything worked fine as nothing has ever happened. I went into Device Manager and there were two different GPUs, one with the normal icon and an another one with a yellow warning triangle. I installed the drivers to the warning triangle one, it started up normally and flickered every now and then (which I supposed to be normal, as it was installing graphics card drivers) but got a BSOD for NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM, and the laptop rebooted. After a reboot, the BSOD happened (the same one!) again before the Welcome screen appeared, and I am currently on safe mode again. Driver installation seems to be successful, as Device Manager now shows both AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series and AMD Radeon HD 7660G as it has showed before.

Again, I attached the logs in case it helps.

Looks like the same AMD drivers have been installed that's causing the problems.

Uninstall the AMD drivers again using the method above and download the drivers directly from AMD.

I downloaded the drivers from AMD and installed them using the method above (Device Manager), should I now instead use the AMD Catalyst program to install them?

How the heck could drivers suddenly become this big of a problem?

Haha, it's okay, no worries! :)
Which of the two graphics drivers should I be installing? Do I just install them by running the .exe file, or can it be installed the same way the AMD ones?
