BSOD resume from sleep

Only happens when I try to wake the computer from sleep. Already tried video card's beta driver, current driver, previous drivers but to no avail. Remove video card and use on-board video instead seems to fix the problem. But it's very slow coming out of sleep (took at least 10 seconds or more). Really wanted to use the video card instead of on board video. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BSOD's blame video - both the onboard and the video card.

I suspect your DeathAdder mouse as it's drivers date from 2007 - and these drivers are known to cause BSOD's in Windows systems.
Remove the DeathAdder software and physically remove the mouse from your system to test.
If that's the cause, then try more updated DeathAdder drivers that are compatible with Win8.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time and effort to look at my problem.

Actually, I did fresh installation of both Windows 8 and Windows 7 without using the Razer mouse, but still the same BSOD coming out of sleep under both OS with the XFX GT 630. Popped an old Asus 9400 GT back in for testing, no problem at all in W7 and W8. Also, tried an XFX HD 5770; no problem coming out of sleep also under both OS.

So I don't know if it is a motherboard bios issue (which I am pretty sure Lenovo would do nothing about it since it's so old), a Windows 8 problem or Nvidia driver problem?

Please remove the Razer mouse (and it's software) and then let the system BSOD.
We can then analyze that memory dump to see what the issue might be.

If all of this doesn't stop the BSOD's, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Thanks again usasma for your help.

I removed the Razer mouse and its software but the system still BSOD coming out of sleep. I'm using PS/2 mouse and keyboard lol

I ran the Driver Verifier Settings as suggested and I attached the dump files (081013-10342-01 with updated Intel LAN driver but still BSOD coming out of sleep :( and a picture of the Blue Screen message. Thanks in advance for looking into this nagging issue.

BSOD's are complicated things - it may be that there are problems between several competing 3rd party drivers (and maybe with hardware/Windows also). As such it often takes up to 2 pages worth of posts before we fix it. Some of the difficult situations can easily go to 5 or 6 pages.

Both of the memory dumps are STOP 0x116 (Video TDR Timeout), and one is a Driver Verifier enabled memory dump. Both blame the nVidia drivers - so I would suspect either the drivers or the nVidia card itself (a hardware problem)
The suggestions for troubleshooting this type of error are here: Video TDR Timeout - 0x116 + 0x117 - Sysnative Forums I strongly suggest NOT using beta drivers while testing for problems with the card.

Please don't forget to turn Driver Verifier off. You do this by launching verifier.exe, selecting "Delete existing settings" and clicking on the "Finish" button. Reboot for the changes to take affect.

usasma, thanks again for the quick response. I don't know how you do it but the amount of requests you get daily seems so overwhelming to me and I really hope you get some compensation from Microsoft.

Anyway, I installed the video card in 2 other systems for testing (both are custom builds; running Windows 8 with the same video card driver). And just to make sure it's not a power issue, I use the same power supply throughout all the testing across these three systems (the Lenovo and the 2 custom builds).

Surprisingly, it does not BSOD coming out of sleep for the 2 custom builds. So is it safe to say that it's the motherboard of the Lenovo?

Thanks for the kind words! As an MVP I get some benefits from Microsoft. Here's a generic description: MVP Award Value
But the real payoff is being able to help others. I earned the award for helping others, and would continue to help others even without the award.

Yes, I'd suspect the Lenovo mobo - either a broken mobo or an incompatibility. But it's still possible that other factors (such as bad storage controller drivers, bad chipset drivers, etc) are to blame.

Can you take a video card out of the one of the other systems and try it in the Lenovo?
Can you reinstall Windows, get all Lenovo updates, then all Windows Updates and see if that helps?

It's so nice of you to help others without asking anything in return (I believe if our world has more people like you, it will be more peaceful). Is there anything I can do to help you earn a even higher reward? Ironically, Microsoft does not even provide this kind of in-depth support.

Anyway, I installed an old Asus Nvidia 9400 GT in the Lenovo; and surprisingly, it comes out of sleep smoothly.

Also, tried an XFX AMD HD 5770 in the Lenovo; and again, no BSOD coming out of sleep.

Finally, I reverted back to Windows 7 to see if it's a Windows 8 compatibility issue; and to my disappointment, the video card in question from the original post (XFX Nvidia GT 630) still BSOD coming out of sleep in Windows 7.

So I guess it's incompatibility between the Lenovo motherboard and that particular video card? Please tell me no because I am pretty sure Lenovo will not provide any support for an obsoleted product and will give me the usual run-around :(

Perhaps I am asking for too much; but do you have any connection with the people over at Lenovo? Is it difficult (resource-draining) for a company to create a BIOS to add compatibility the newer hardware?

All of the tests that you've done lean towards it being a problem with the motherboard. But that isn't a certainty - it could still be a problem with the video card.
The only other thing to try would be another XFX Nvidia GT 630 in order to verify that it's that particular card that causes this problem. Then you'd have to convince Lenovo to generate a new BIOS (Sorry, but I don't have any pull with them).

I doubt that it's an incompatibility tho' - as there'd be lot's of mentions of problems with this card on the web (which I didn't find)
Most likely is a problem with the mobo that is only triggered by this type of card (I'd have to wonder if other, more advanced nVidia products would have similar problems - as I presume they'd have similar features).

Cheapest "fix" is to try another XFX Nvida GT 630
- if able to RMA the currect card, that'd be easiest
- you could also purchase one from a shop that accepts returns (and will return your money) if it's not needed.
If the problems remain, then replace the mobo.
If the problems are fixed, then it was the card

usasma, thanks again for the recommendation. Unfortunately, none of the stores (both locally and online) carry the XFX GT 630 model anymore. But any dual fan video card from XFX comes with life-time warranty so I could possibly RMA it. However, shipping it back would cost me more than the price of the video card itself (I got it very cheap for $29.99 after rebate)! So I guess I will switch the XFX GT 630 to either one of the two custom builds (since it does not BSOD coming out of sleep when installed in the two custom builds).

Anyway, I greatly appreciate you taking your time to look into my case and provide me with valuable advice. Keep up the good work!
