Solved Brother 6490cw

I managed to install the printer driver for my multifunction brother printer. however when I go to install the other software to allow scanning etc I get the message that it is not compatible with my operating system and will not install so I cannot use the scanning and other functions. Any ideas anyone?

I get the same error and even compatibility mode.

Update: First extract the MFC self extracting exe with 7-Zip or your archival tool of choice, and right click on the setup.exe and set that file to compatibility mode to Windows 7.

Thanks vahnx you solved my problem. I can now go to 8 as my main operating system.

Sure. Click this and install it: 7zip
Now download your driver or copy it from the disc, and right click on it, and select extract.
Now you'll see setup.exe, right click the file and go to properties. On the compatibility tab, switch to "Windows 7". If that doesn't work, try Vista or maybe even XP.
Now run the setup file and it should install properly.
