This is how the thread appears in my browser when I'm logged in.
But if I'm not logged in, I can't get the image to appear at all.
And I'm now getting the "Attach Files" button too. But it only appears AFTER I put the image in the drop box.
In that conversation thread, I couldn't even GET the drop box. That's what I don't understand.

I've just checked with IE and it doesn't show with that, but tbh that is not surprising as IE doesn't conform to modern web standards and only 2% of visitors use it these days.

Chrome, Firefox, and Edge show the thumbnail version which is what should happen if not logged in.

If you are still using Internet Explorer for day to day browsing then you really should be looking to move on to a modern browser, if you like Microsoft browsers I think the new Edge works on windows 8 https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2069324&Channel=Stable&language=en

This is funny. I downloaded Microsoft Edge and when I click the Install program (MicrosoftEdgeSetup.exe) it says I should install the latest Windows Updates first. So I installed the updates, shut down and restarted, and yet the Edge installer is STILL telling me to install the updates!

Where did you download Edge? is it the beta of the new Chromium based Edge? If so. you may have inadvertently downloaded the one intended for Windows 10 and the 'update' it's asking is Windows 10!

The W8.1 download is here: Download Microsoft Edge Insider Channels

OK, I got the Beta of Edge for 8.1 and I find that with Edge (or Chrome) I see the thumbnail if I don't log in. But I still can't get the full-size image. Is that because the full-size is never available without being logged in?

OK, I got it. But gee, Internet Explorer has so many things -- menu bar, command bar, status bar... A lot of those things seem to be missing in Edge and Chrome.
