Solved Bogging down while streaming/gaming, now BSOD (Watchdog Violation)

Hello everyone. At the behest of my husband, I'm making a thread here. I'm beyond frustrated and upset, and I don't think I'll find help here, but it's worth a shot, right? Supposedly you folks are the best free help there is.

For about 8-10 months, I've been struggling with momentary "lag" moments on my PC. Usually while watching a YouTube video on my second monitor in Chrome, and playing a game on my main monitor. (World of Warcraft, ESO, Elite: Dangerous)

Now, it seems to happen even while I'm just gaming, with nothing else but Discord up.

It happens as follows: My mouse begins to lag and move slowly, Windows slooooows down, until it's like molasses, and my sound crackles and skips and lags. I lose framerate, but there's no graphical tearing or anything. The fan on my CPU cooler (Corsair H60) slows down. This lasts for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, before resuming normal operation, and my cooler fan picking back up.

Lately however, it has begun also BSODing after these lag attacks. I've followed the instructions for a BSOD post on these forums, so those files are attached.

I've noticed that Windows Management Instrumentation Service, and audiodg.exe seem to eat up my CPU when I check the task manager when it's bogging/lagging. I also suspect Corsair Utility Engine of some foul play, but I've had it bog down even when this program is uninstalled completely.

EDIT: I've also noticed that my disk usage goes to 100% when opening a game or Chrome. Is this normal? A friend told me to stop and disable Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) in Services, so I've done this. Seeing what happens now.

Here's what I have already done for troubleshooting:
  • Bought a new harddrive (we thought it could be that) and installed Windows 8 fresh on it. Completed all updates, now running Windows 8.1
  • Replaced the SATA cable on my harddrive.
  • Checked the integrity on the new drive. Solid. (on Feb. 13th, 2018)
  • Run Windows Defender and Microsoft Safety Scanner. Clean.
  • Run Memtest. Clean.
  • Disabled Iphelper, superfetch, set Windows Update to only search for but not download updates.
  • Updated all of my drivers using AVG Driver Updater (ouch, that $30 price tag...)
  • Tried "stress testing" (running a game and watching a video) with my Corsair VOID RGB wireless headset and without.
Please, if anyone can help me I'd be so grateful. I've been yanking my hair out for months, had to give up my Twitch stream because I just couldn't handle the lag attacks while streaming, and now it's doing it just while playing a game and nothing else! I'm more than happy to try something new, is there anything else you can think of I haven't already tried? Thank you in advance for even reading my problem.

Hi kee413,

Welcome to 8forums :)

When did you replace the hard drive? I'm a bit worried about these events
Code:

2018-02-07T21:49:49.816 Crash dump initialization failed!

Please request a refund on AVG Driver Updater, never use programs to update drivers!

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver, you can use this tutorial to do so :ar: NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems - Windows 7 Help Forums

Hello axe0, thank you! And thank you for your time, I'm sure you're a busy person.

The hard drive was installed on February 7th. If those are timestamps, it was installed several hours before that. It was probably doing updates/restarts for Windows at that time on the 7th. The other ones feel like they might coincide with lag spikes, though! When I installed the drive, it was, of course, blank, so I thought I could probably just insert my Windows disk and boot from the disk. Tried a few different ways but it just wouldn't do it. I then re-installed the old drive, installed Windows from the disk on the new drive, and formatted the old one. The old one is now sitting in the kitchen.

I have obtained a refund from AVG. Thanks!

I have also followed the tutorial instructions and uninstalled/clean re-installed my graphics drivers. I haven't gone into a game or watched a video yet though, I'll do that while I wait for info on the hard drive.

Thank you again, hope to hear from you when you have time!

I'm not as busy as I'd like to, am currently looking for a job so I have some free time.

Those are timestamps from the eventlog.

How old is the hardware?
How is the integrity of the new drive checked?

Most of the hardware in this build is from 2013. The hard drive was just bought on February 5th, however, to replace the previous, 4 year old drive.

I ran chkdsk /f on the new drive.

I couldn't find the original one I thought I ran, so I ran another. It's been a long couple weeks, I may have run it on the old one. I've attached the .txt for today's scan on the 'new' drive.

EDIT: I had another lag attack while watching a YouTube video and playing World of Warcraft. First one all day. Not as bad as usual, but still crippling for a few seconds. Event Viewer gives me the following events at the time of the lag:

Could you follow points E and F from POSTING INSTRUCTIONS for DPC/ISR latency, stuttering, cracks/pops, try to get another lag and then run following command in an admin command prompt.
Code:
xperf -d "%userprofile%\Desktop\trace.etl"
Upload this file to onedrive, google drive or dropbox and post a share link, it will be too large to upload directly.

There's a driver that springs above everything else, USBPORT.sys which is a Windows driver, indicating that a driver from a USB device causes issues.
The question is, what devices are connected via USB?

Done. I assume I should test and see if it lags without those items?

EDIT: And it did. Just with the Corsair k90 keyboard and Scimitar mouse. The keyboard is as old as the computer (2013). The mouse I got maybe a year ago? Ish? I got another trace.etl from this latest bout, I'm uploading it to my drive just in case you need it. I'm also looking around for a spare mouse to try. New Trace.

EDIT 2: Lagged again while using different mouse. Trying a different keyboard now.

EDIT 3: Lagged while using different keyboard too.

Do you happen to know what board version you're using?
The support page of Gigabyte shows versions
  • 1.0/1.1
  • 1.2
  • 1.3
  • 1.4
  • 3.0
If you don't know, you need to check it physically.

If I'm looking correctly, it seems that the RAM isn't seated in a way the motherboard supports. Could you check if the RAM is seated accordingly please.
This is how your motherboard likes it, simply put: RAM modules in the same colored slots.

Also another question, what memtest did you run? From what I know there are 3 different tests
  • Built-in memory test, not very great
  • MemTest86, great for RAM as of DDR4
  • MemTest86+, great for RAM up to DDR3

The RAM has been in slots 2 and 1 (the two white slots) since I built it in 2013.

Memtest 86+ is what I run from a thumb drive.
