The build-in Windows Defender is more than good enough, like Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows-7, and doesn't cause any problems with games etc.
You can't unfortunately buy common sense, so it's useless to spend 10 bucks or 100 bucks on an Antivirus-App, as they only work if you don't by-pass them via user-input and are always behind, as the virus always comes first and then the Anti-Virus-App-Update.
Just use your brain a bit when you go Online and everything will be fine, but it's still a good idea to make regular back-up's of your important stuff or completely keep it off your main-system.
You could use ext. HDD's or USB-Stick's or Cloud Storage for your important stuff.
