Backup/copy new system settings after 8.1 upgrade

Hi all

New to forums so i hope you will be kind to me!!!

I have a Toshiba (satellite) laptop and it has just been upgraded to Windows 8.1.
I made recovery discs before the upgrade but would like to backup again after the
upgrade so i don't have to revert to the factory set-up or refresh option as I have already
had that experience and i don't want to go that route again!!
My laptop is only 9months old & running fine so far with no issues, i can back-up my documents
etc to my flash drive but i would like to back up, 'or do you call it copying', the whole setup
so if i have a problem i can re-install the whole lot as it stands from today.
I have increased the system restore percentage bar to allow more restores points as another
safety option.
Please bear in mind I am not an expert but do have a little knowledge (but that can be dangerous lol)
Your advice and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards
Rozzer

Hi Nuccii

Thanks for your response and i have downloaded Macrium per your advice and will go that route and see what
happens, How do i go about creating a rescue disc? (is this not the same as the recovery discs)
After doing an image backup will that allow me to reinstall my Windows 8.1 O/S complete with all my files etc or is
this an image backup of everything excluding the O/S.
Thanks in advance

Rozzer

The image backup is an exact duplicate of everything on your hard drive.
On the top left side of the screen under File you click that globe to create a bootable Rescue Disk to boot your computer to restore your image backup.

I have already made a Rescue Disk and all seemed to go well using the Macrium.
Just need to do a full back-up as soon as i get more CD-RW disks.

Thanks for your help, hope the rest goes ok otherwise i will be back *S*!!!!!!!!

The backup is best performed on an external hard drive, it is more secure and takes less time.

A 32 or 64 GB usb would work for the image with maximum compression---

All my local drives are about 51 GBs.
The image made from them is around 21 GBs.
