That was easy!
How to remove login password from windows 8 logon and login automatically without entering it

netplwiz in Metro search will get you to the User Account screen that lets you uncheck a box that requires a password to be typed on boot. You need to type in your password in the two following boxes for this to work.

Sorry if this is a double post. I tried searches but nothing solid came up...

I just discovered that searching using the advanced button works much better than the usual search box. I gotta read through those tutorials, some GREAT stuff there!

Hello Lange,

Sure, it works with any user account including the local built-in "Administrator" account. You would just need to select "Administrator" in netplwiz like below. :)

Hope this helps, :)

Hi Shawn,

I doesn't here for some reason and i can't figure out why (i know my way around a PC quite well, i always build my own PC's so that should not be a problem).
I used a Windows 8 Pro upgrade and upgraded from a Windows 7 Ultimate on which there was no password to login (since i'm the only user so...) and after the upgrade, there was no login on the Windows 8 either so it must be possible.
But after 2 weeks playing with it, i found it was time to move one and do a clean Windows 8 install but this presented me with a password at login which i can't remove. I even re-installed Windows 8 clean 3 times in row always thinking i overlooked something which prevented me from bypassing the password at startup.
After searching the net i didn't get any further and the problem persisted.
Up until now i tried everything i could find to remove the password but no joy.
In the end i even payed up for Asunsoft password remover after having a discussion with them about my issue (normally i don't see any reason to pay for something i can do myself but this time...).
But even their stuff doesn't remove the password at startup.
So i'm still dealing with this rubbish...

Solved:

Once you get on a certain track it can be hard to derail. I always made the same error because i used the Microsoft account instead of a new created account. I always skipped that part so i ended up with a Microsoft account and nothing else. And on this MS account i can't remove the password. Since for me this was the administrator account, i thought i could remove the password but i didn't realize that there was/is a difference between the MS account and another, new self created user account with admin rights.
Now it boots directly into the user (single one) account without asking for a password.

Just when you think you know something Windows 8 will trick you.

It has lots of tricks up it's sleeve. And lots of remedies.

The security aspect is more enhanced than ever before.

Here are some suggestions:

* Look in Win 8 at the several suggestions to make dics. And make them, including the password disc. If you mess up that one alone will save your bacon, even if you install other software.

* Win 8 has an area where is saves you passwords and lists them. It also has a feature to supply you with certain passwords.

* Use a note pad and jot down ALL user names and passwords for everything;

Log on; MSN Live mail; Norton; Your bank; Google; Photo hosting websites; TurboTax; Windows 8 forum; Your computers forum; Cable company website; Credit card sites; Pay Pal; other forums; Skype; Skydrive; wireless keyboards and mice, unifying receivers, USB and on and on......

The computer world and the internet are seeing more and sophisticated hackers, after everything. Microsoft and others have beefed up the security more and more externally and internally.

Some aspects will obsolete your password after a period of time. Others with automatic log on will NOT log on sometimes.

There is always something going on day and night every minute, someone is installing updates, someone is trying to hack your E-mail, someone is planting a worm or virus, your safety provider is running scans, data miners are tracking you, Amazon is planting popup ads ...........................................

If you really want some fun set up a Local Area Network and incorporate all available protections, for all other computers, peer to peer, or host client, for other users, parental control and so on. Then switch from the password to the pin log in then to the picture log in, then the automatic log in and let Win 8 make some recommendations and decisions.

Lange,

I'm happy to hear you got it sorted.

For a Microsoft account, you do not want to select the one that is only a member of the HomeUsers group in netplwiz. You would want to select the one listed that is part of both the HomeUsers and Administrators or Users group instead.

Afterwards, you can be signed in to your Microsoft account automatically at startup with it having it's password. :)

More on this in the Note box under step 4B below.

Well that's the one i tried to remove several times (and is what i actually wanted to do) but this is the one that one didn't work. And i still can't make it work as of now, just tried. Look at your note on 4D: Microsoft Accounts will always have a password.
That phrase pointed me (or derailed me from the track i was on) to the other direction.
But it works now like it is, startup and directly without entering any password to the Metro/Desktop.

Been doing that for years, the list has grown long in time...

Yeah, that's only for at startup. You might see if this may help to disable password protection for on wakeup and resume from screen saver.
