Did a hard shutdown.

On restart got Disk Read Error , press ctrl+Alt+Del

Immediately after pressing the above - instead of boot menu -very quick notification

"Windows is Resuming"

Flash of the dancing balls

Then got to the desktop

Very fast, about 3-4 secs at a guess.

So Windows is doing a Auto Hibernate feature every so often?

Not sure - when I did the hard shutdown , I wasn't in win 8.

Neither is win 8 the default boot entry.
