Audio device device graph isolation problem Win 8.1

I have a windows 8.1 laptop, and whenever i tried to access the "recording devices" in sounds it freezes for around 3-5 mins but after that it returns to normal

During that time, rundll32.exe in taskmanager goes into "not responding" and the "Windows audio device device graph isolation" takes up 100% of the disk

I believe this has to do with why sometimes my microphone doesn't work in games, ie CSGO, I sometimes alt tab out to see the Windows audio device device graph isolation going into high disk usage and the game takes a long time to load

Anyone know what problem could have caused this?

edit some additional info:
-I only have NVIDIA virtual audio device and realtek high definition audio drivers in my device manager > sound, video and game controller
-The freeze only happens when i select the "recording device" tab, not the "playback device" tab

Try temporarily disabling the NVIDIA audio device (which is for HDMI audio). See if that makes any difference.
If no difference, try reinstalling the Realtek audio drivers.
If still no difference, I would suspect an OS problem.
