Asus laptop unable to detect 5ghz wifi while my phone can

I have checked the laptop network capability and found that it only supports 2.4ghzz. However, I would like to know if I buy a wifi usb (to detect the 5ghz wifi) and insert to the us port of my laptop, will it work?? Thank you.
