Are We Dying????

Going to be sad to see the end of 8.1

It's still my favourite OS, even though I will be moving over to 10

As new operating systems are introduced users will move from the old toward the new. The newer OS will be installed on older computers or be pre-installed on new computers. As popularity of older systems drops forums dedicated to them will have less activity. This will happen with any operating system, no matter how popular it might currently be. The process is as inevitable as birth and death.

The day will come when users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 are only a tiny minority and forums dedicated to them only a memory. It could not be otherwise.

I know this 8.1 will be taken over by 10 but I'll still have a 7 machine. I don't think this particular forum has been quite as popular as the others as the OS hasn't been as well liked. Vista is very quiet as well but there are still people who need help with the older systems.

In the world of technology things move very quickly and most people want to keep up with it. :)

I will be keeping Win8.1 and Win7 running for awhile just as I am keeping a Vista computer and a WinXP computer working for helping others. My WinXP computer has a 3.5"/5.25" combination floppy drive and a 250MB Iomega Zip drive for use when folks 'find' old disks and want to see or save the data from them. An issue with the floppy drives is the BIOS on new computers or motherboards don't always support the floppies or A: and/or B: drives. My Win7 and Win8.1 computers can get Win10 but I have a separate Notebook and a Desktop that will be getting Win10, didn't put the preview version on them.

I used to be on sevenforums for a long time and made an account here on eightforums, but never really had the time to hop on and chat with you guys. I came here yesterday to see what was up and started wondering where everyone was. I know a lot of the people I knew on SF might no longer be online, and I myself have been away for nearly two years.... Just wondering if there is already a tenforums that is up and running and if everyone is spending more time there...

I've decided not to jump to 10 right away, pretty happy with 8.1 and Classic Shell for now. And the automatic updates on a capped usage ISP doesn't make me too happy.

Best not to I think until it comes July 29 & see what happens.
I want to keep all installed programs & files & folders.

Until it rolls out I won't know if I can or not.

I have paid for programs & I don't want to have to reinstall them.
A pain in the butt. :(

Still a lot of members in Windows 7 forum as of today. Can not see this forum dying, just most that are upgrading will be spending more time there to a certain point, may even still ask questions here when doing the upgrade from Win 8.1.

Thought if it is an upgrade should be able to keep all of that. Just never liked idea of upgrade over another OS, like idea or ability to clean install this upgrade in some way even though have to reinstall all software again.

Think numbers here are showing this forum is dying down a bit. Compare amount here to Windows Ten forum, but because of the official launch and all the questions now.

Actually the overall traffic doubled here this week and new users online record was set, ok they will all have been looking to upgrade to 10 but it was a good increase.

Yeah, could not believe though amount of people at Ten forums day of launch and still after compared to here, has quieted some, think was heavy here on 29th of July.

Regardless of the millions using using new OS'es, like Windows 10, there are still billions and million of people using now called "old" systems, like Windows 7, Windows Vista, Even XP and etc. There's even a small minority of people that use Windows 3.1 and 95/98. But that's not gonna be for a long time. So yeah, in a way we are dying.

I'll continue to login in here everyday as I have several Win 8.1 machines that I don't plan to upgrade to 10. Right now I have a mix of Win 7, Win 8 and Win 10 machines.
