Anyone using Windows 8 as Primary OS?

noeleon13 when we do a clean install of windows little or nothing is preserved from the previous setting, what we get is a windows old folder, this is a complete rewrite of windows with compatibility issues, also remember what you are using is not the final product. I took windows 7 ultimate off my aspire 6920g and it works fine, a bit of a learning curve but when is there not with a new software

I gave up on Windows 8. Too much trouble.
It's still early days for me with Win8, but I'm tending to move to the same point of view. However, I'll give it a bit more time and investigation.

the updates yesterday helped it sorted out the freeze issue ect but still get bsod on odd occasion

I'm using Win8 as primary.

Better to use Release Preview than Consumer Preview. :)

From the beginning I install the Win 8 Release Preview got so excited for I have all the drivers coming from the manufacturers' website. So, I take the chance to install everything (driver, driver and drivers) and most of them cannot be installed. I'd try compatibility but still cannot be install. I installed chrome as browser, software that I need and anti-V (ESET SS v5).

Then a few days after trouble come out FREEZING that never stop, What I did is I monitor one by one that I install then I got my answer to those installers that I have installed.

I have problem before but in a long run I sorted it out and thinking that the cause of the problem is the OS it self but I'm wrong.

When you use Win8 as your primary make sure that you can keep a track of what you have install so that you will have an alternative measures to the driver/software/anti-v. :thumb:

Hope this helps. :)

Since I have no choice yes I am using Windows 8 RP as my main OS. I don't own a Super Computer so I can't duel boot like everyone else.

I bought a Fujitsu LH531 Laptop two weeks ago. It came with only DOS. So I installed WRP 64-bit as the main and only OS. Luckily all driver and utility work 100 percent without any issue so far. And, installed classic shell as the start menu :p.

It is totally different story with My K42F ASUS laptop which WRP refused to install the LAN driver (not for WCP)

Will see if it work for more days. :)

Yes, and no.....

It's not the primary OS on my main machine (Win 7

So far it's been running without issues.

    Borderline pathetic.
Complicated question!!!
What is meant by primary os?
I dual boot windows 7 and 8. But windows 8 is in a virtual hard disk file. So in that sense windows 7 is my primary os.

But as far as use is concerned I use windows 8 90% of the time. So in that sense I give priority to windows 8 and its my primary os.

And remember its still a beta release, the actual finished product is still to come ;)

Tried customer preview and wasn't impressed but installed release preview and all has been well. Seems solid. Using as main OS now and will keep using since the upgrade will only be $40.

Getting more used to it everyday. Sure there's a learning curve, but nothing like ubuntu :)

Hi, Just signed into this forum today, for what is worth I am running Windows Release preview Build 8400 (on my main system drive) with no problems whatsoever.

Love it, so smooth easy to switch from tile view and desktop view. All my main programs run, including MS Office 2010, Total Commander, Steam, CCleaner and all Web browsers, including Safari. ITunes, Skype and Picasa also run fine.
I am enjoying the ride,

My only complaint has been the partial support of hardware designed for Windows XP (and those issues will be solved eventually). Overall, I feel very spoiled to be using this very stable OS essentially for free (until Jan, 2013, that is).

The system boots faster than 7 or Vista and certainly faster than any iteration of GNU/Linux or freeBSD. I think the increased boot speed is mostly due to Windows 8's use of the "secure boot" sequence. I would feel a little better if Win8 had an option for verbose boot or at least a way to view the POST messages. I have been using Win8 on my main laptop for a couple of months and do plan to purchase the OS when it comes out.

I've been using RP 8400 for about 2 weeks now. DP was a huge let down for me, and I skipped CP. I actually only installed RP because 7 died on me and died hard, and I was curious. For desktop stuff it is very cool, but for gaming, it is sorely lacking. And that's why I'm not a Linux user, I want to play games and I have a GPU that allows me to do so very well. Unfortunately my current OS opposes fullscreen gaming that is not Metro, and I don't see Bethesda churning out a Metro interface for Fallout 3, nor should they have to.

I must admit that's the feeling I get. It seems crisper than Win7 but a lot of tasks seem a lot clumsier to achieve. I haven't given up yet, but I'm defintitely not ready to commit to it as my primary OS.

I've been able to load dedicated drivers for Win8 for Gigabyte GTX 550 Ti graphics card, but still get error: Graphics card failed but now resumed. On running Intel online auto detect drivers needed, the ony one available at this time is chipset.

Was able to download and run WinLiveMail, but not Avast or Zone Alarm. Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spy OK. Most other 3rd party apps I use are OK. More info after more testing.

I have an old Dell desktop I use for monitoring our CCTV system & home built desktop for my main computer with Win7. Very satisfied with it.

Then I bought an AMD package & built a new desktop for Win8. At first I was down on it & used Win7 for my main computer.
As more updates came along, I used Win8 more & more, now I have moved the Win8 computer to the main position & use it all the time.

I particularly like the "Metro" desktop for news & views. Sometimes I am frustrated by it, such as, I have "Wikipedia" on the "Metro" but so far have not found how to us it for searching. I go back to the normal desktop to do the searching. As with other functions in "Metro" it is learning Keyboard shortcuts & discovering new things to use in "Metro".

I am used to the updates as I started with Win95.
