Mine laptop is slow now and it takes more time to start. I am sure there is much junk i.e. extra files, temporary files or unwanted registry entries in windows. Can someone tell me which free and good utility to use to clean up my pc?

Extra files and such like temp files don't slow down anything, they just take space on disk. Cleaning up unwanted startup and autorun programs will do much more for system responsiveness. Properly uninstalling programs like that with an uninstaller like Revo will get rid of most leftovers those programs may leave behind.
"Disk clenup" built into windows can take care of the rest safest way.

None of them broke anything.
Yet ;)

CCleaner is supposedly OK but I would just uninstall programs you don't want, delete everything from here C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Temp\ and run cleanmgr.exe (Disk Cleanup - Open and Use - Windows 7 Help Forums )

Don't worry about the registry. Deleting a few hundered or thousand orphaned database records will not speed up your PC.

Agreed. CCleaner, as an uninstaller, merely finds the uninst file in the program folder and executes it, no diff than if you find it yourself.Just more brainless.

I am using Advanced System Optimizer for regular maintenance..It has some very useful utilities..so i don't have to download 4 to 5 different tools..!!!! It optimizes my pc & increase its working efficiency. Gr8 software.

Nobody has to download any tool, windows gives some handy tools to help you cleaning your pc. You just need to find them ;)

I use CCleaner along with Wise Care 365 - it has all a user might need, including HDD defragmenter.

Except, they have a terrible interface and they do not clean everything.

Rather then disc cleanup, I prefer mentioned tools and this command:
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I wonder, how you can put up with its scanning speed, 30-60 minutes to complete? I could not. :sleepy:
It stresses HDD and decreases its life span, just so you can cleanup a few KB more than with CCleaner.

It has been proven multiple times, even in this forum, that leftovers can cause serious issues, like preventing you from installing a new software like NET Framework, upgrading software/drivers or even BSODs, just because of one tiny registry entry.
