AMD FX-8350 4GHz Socket AM3

Hi,

I am looking at purchasing the AMD FX 8350 CPU and currently have the Corsair H50 cooling system. I was wondering if there is anyone on here using the same setup and how they have found the temps? And also if the H50 is capable of running the 8350 at stock speeds?

I do not have that specific combo so I can't comment to that end; however, I just thought I would mention that microcenter.com has the 8320 on sale for just $99.99. You could probably run that at turbo and get the same speeds as a stock 8350:

FYI, the Passmark rating for the 8350 is "9052" and it is "8117" for the 8320.

I've got the FX-8350 annd a Corsair H-100. Personally, if I were you I'd at least go with either the Corsair H-80 or H-80i both have 2 120mm. fans for push-pull and can replace your cases rear exhaust fan.

I've put the AMD 8350 in my motherboard Gigabtye 990FXA UD5 Rev 3 and the CPU temps are fluctuating all over the place, one minute they can be 16c and 20c then it can go down to 7c. This is also the same within the BIOS and Windows, I've updated to the latest BIOS for the board and my cpu cooling is Corsair H50.

Do you know why the temps are fluctuating so much?

Could be a defective heat-sink or maybe even something on your motherboard. Have you looked for and installed any bios/uefi updates for your motherboard ? A lot of times, they fix various issue's with the mobo. If you do update it, make sure to load optimized default's afterwards and then make sure your ram timings are set right.

Hi,

The heatsink worked ok on the 1090T cpu. The system is displaying multiple BSOD's. I am running the Fcd BIOS for the motherboard which is the latest for the broad direct from Gigabyte. Do you know what settings I should input into the BIOS for the 8350 or should it work fine on auto?

Should be fine on Auto. Download CPUz from this link and compare your ram timings in the Memory tab to the SPD tab. They should match. If not, you need to change them in the bios/uefi to match CPUz's SPD tab. CPUz download link: CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting Also download the free version of HWMonitor and install it. All BIOS settings are on default / auto. I have manually inputted the memory timings etc. I believe there may be an issue with the motherboard as the north bridge chipset is showing as 45c at idle. Do you think that this is hot for this board?

Just been running OCCT and notice that it states that the original CPU clock was 4ghz but its running higher and is showing an overclock of 3%. I have not overclocked the CPU so the BIOS seems to have done this by its self, I believe this could be the cause of the issue. What settings do I need to change in the BIOS to force the CPU to run at only 4ghz?

Also could you advise why it shows at 6cores?

Look and see if your uefi has any auto overclocking enabled in it. If it does disable it and see what happens. Did you install HWMonitor free ? It reads the temp's while in Windows.

I can't see any auto overlclocking enabled within the BIOS. Do you know what the manual settings should be for the AMD 8350 CPU so that I can try these and see if the system remains stable? I've also tried HWMonitor and it reports the same temps as Aida64 Extreme.

Vishera cored processor are known to give wrong temperature readings on low loadings, always check max temps at full load, that's what matters most anyway.

This. Also it is physically impossible for any temp to be below ambient/room temperature unless using exotic cooling.

One more thing. Don't forget that the Fx 8350 has a stock speed of 4000, with a turbo speed of 4200.

Yes 8350 at 4.2GHz is not much OC, with some better cooling 4.5 - 4.7 GHz is not a big problem either, up to 5 GHz with very good cooling and appropriate MB is not a rarity, but the problem of reporting wrong temperature on idle, both core and Tmpin, remains. Some people reported core temp going into minus and they do not live in Alaska either.
My point is that temps at idle are mostly irrelevant, specially because Vishera reports them wrong anyway if Max temps are not way out.

So regarding my last post in which I suggested that I could ask the maker of the board to setup a test bed? If so then I have not contacted them yet but will do tonight. I've removed the Corsair link software as you advised.
