AMD Catalyst Control Center does not show settings?

I had to recently refresh Windows 8.1 so I had to go re-download AMD Catalyst Control Center. When I did this, I opened it up and there is only around two category settings which are "Performance" and "Power" and this is with "Advance settings" turned on. I use to have around 7 categories of settings to mess around with. If I recall, one was called "VGA Display Settings" and it let me position my screen, which I direly need.

Where did all the other settings go?

I encountered the same problem with Windows 8 when I made the "mistake" of installing AMD CCC using the standard approach -- by running the installer. What I found that worked was using Device Manager to reinstall the drivers and pointing it at the directory on C:\AMD\Support\<downloaded-file-name\Packages\Drivers\Display\W8_INF\

When I installed that way, I had the full set of options previously available in Win7.

Installing AMD drivers using the standard approach of double-clicking the file and running it, I have found, does not work.

Instead, you use Device Manager to update the driver. It wants an .inf file in order to do that. So, you use that to update the drive by pointing it at the .inf file in the directory path I mentioned.

I have the same problem. AMD Catalyst Control Manager will not open after plug in my new videocard and installing the drivers. Please someone help!

AMD CC depends heavily on .Net, different driver versions on different versions of .NET runtimes.
Newer versions of drivers have "AMD Vision Engine Control Center" instead.

I installed the new drivers before I deleted the old drivers, maybe that's the problem. But now I have just the latest drivers, I downloaded from amd site. I've deleted everything of amd and then reinstalled again, but I still can't in amd catalyst control center

So click on finish and restart computer, it should have done the job. If anything was not up to par with .net, should be fixed.

I had similar issues once as well with my 7850. What it was for some odd reason the actual MFG of my PC would read the card as an older driver than was out on the AMD site itself. Then when I did actually do on the AMD site you know how it does the "auto detect" ? Well it detected the card but it gave me either a bad driver or the wrong one. I had to manually find it on the site and go from there. Make sure you don't use Beta types either.

I followed you're steps, so I restart the pc at the end, but still not fixed (amd catalyst control center will not open). When I press on the amd catalyst contol center button, it's loading for a few seconds than it doen't react. amd control center.jpg

I removed everything of amd, but I would say that there is a folder remains of amd (ati technologies) in program files x86 that I can't remove. Maybe that's the problem and how can I remove it. It says that the application is open and therefore I can't remove.map amd 86x.jpg

Great, I made it finally. You really need to try removing everything of amd. I've looked at amd files through task management. Press properties and must refer to something windows: system 32, there is somewhere a few files from ati (amd) you need to remove all. Then reboot your PC and install all the drivers again. Then it must work. Thank you all for your help.

One of good programs for uninstalling video drivers: Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 12.9.4.0

It is a very common problem and can be caused by more thing. I'd like to help those who search this and still have this problem.

First of all, not the newest driver is the best for every card. Go to Download Drivers and give the informations of your system properly. If you have an older video card, you will be told to download an older (most likely 2013ish) version. For me (WIN7/HD4770) it was 13.9 and it installed an ATI Vision Engine instead of the notorius CCC (they pretty much have the same options, seriously!) I've also heard 13.1 is a great stable version for everyone.

Here are all the steps:

1. Download the suggested driver from AMD's website.

2. Run the downloaded exe file. It will unpack the driver components to the C:/AMD/Support/&drivername&/. After unpacking, not install the driver yet.

3. If you already have one video driver installed, uninstall it. Select the option to remove all. You do not have to run a registry cleaner. Furthermore, do NOT run AMD's registry cleaner "removal tool" (available on their website), as it is totally incompatible with Windows 8.1 and will destroy it beyond repair. (No, i'm not exaggerating).

4. Run device manager as an administrator (from the control panel). Select the graphics card, and uninstall the default AMD driver. Make sure you check the box to "delete" the driver as well.

5. Disconnect from the internet. This prevents windows from re-installing the default driver in the next step.

6. Scan for hardware changes in the device manager. This brings your device back, but not the driver. (The 'scan for hardware' button will not be there if you didn't run device manager as an adminstrator).

7. In the device manager, run "Update drivers" on the Graphic card, select manual install from the computer, and browse to the AMD folder (or where you unpacked the driver), and let Windows search for a newer driver there. Windows will find it and finally load it.

8. Install the AMD driver in the normal way (by running from C:/AMD/.../Setup.exe, this will install the catalyst too).

9. Right click on desktop and run Catalyst Control Center / Catalyst Vision Engine to make sure it is working now correctly.

10. Re-connect to internet.
