Airplane Mode On or Off Shortcuts - Create in Windows 8

How to Create Turn On or Off Airplane Mode Shortcuts in Windows 8 and 8.1

information   Information
You can turn Airplane mode on or off in Windows 8 to enable or disable all wireless radio devices (ex: Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, Bluetooth) at once in your PC or device.

This tutorial will provide you with shortcuts that you can pin or use where you like to quickly "Turn On Airplane Mode" or "Turn Off Airplane Mode" with a single click in Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 8.1, and Windows RT 8.1.

Note   Note
You will only have the Airplane mode feature available on a mobile Windows 8 PC or device (ex: laptop, tablet, mobile phone, etc...) that has a wireless network connection (ex: Wi-Fi, mobile broadband, Bluetooth).

EXAMPLE: "Turn On Airplane Mode" (left) or "Turn Off Airplane Mode" (right) shortcuts
NOTE:
These are just what the icons of the shortcuts look like.

Here's How:

1. Do step 2 or 3 below for what Windows you have installed.

2. For Only Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.
Airplane_Mode_Turn_On-Off_Shortcuts.zip
download

3. For Only Windows 8.1 Update
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.
8.1_Update_Airplane_Mode_Turn_On-Off_Shortcuts.zip
download

4. Save the .zip file to your desktop.

5. Open the .zip file, and extract (drag and drop) both the Turn On Airplane Mode.exe and Turn Off Airplane Mode.exe files to your desktop.
NOTE: These are standalone .exe files that have digital signatures and do not install or add anything to your computer.

6. You can now move the .exe files to where you like to use them at, then Pin to Taskbar, Pin to Start, add to Quick Launch, or create shortcuts from the .exe files.

NOTE: If you create shortcuts from the .exe files, then you could also assign a keyboard shortcut to each shortcut.

That's it,
Shawn

Hello Chalaulia, and welcome to Eight Forums. :)

I'm not aware of a way to do so via CMD. If you like, you could run the shortcuts from this tutorial in the CMD.

Not that I don't trust you guys, I never had any problems before, but do you know why this comes up as a Trojan? Is it just due to the nature of what the exe does?

I scanned it with Virus Total since my 360 Security comes up with a lot of false-positives, and it reported that 8 and 16 out of 57 resources saw it as a Trojan. Just thought you may want to put a disclaimer on the original post if the file is still clean.

Hello thejeltz,

It's a false positive. These are standalone .exe files that have digital signatures and do not install or add anything to your computer.

They are 100% safe. :)

Some of these online scans are ridiculous, we were flagged as a harmful site a few weeks back by one of these because they had blacklisted Microsoft onedrive and we had several links to it - online scans should be taken with a pinch of salt, any real stuff should be done by your av and malware software.

Some of these online scans are ridiculous - online scans should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I couldn't agree more on that.
As a developer, i usually scan my apps over there, just out of curiosity.
An sometimes they're flagged with a ratio from 10 out of 57,
and being the developer, i know for certain that they contain no malware or viruses.
As a test, i wrote an app which places a script in the user startup folder with code to shut down the computer.
This is potential malware, because nobody wants to see his computer gets shut down,
after he has started it up.
Its easy enough to remove via safe mode or de super admin if you know how,
but less knowledgeable users will have to go online to ask for help and loose a lot of time with it.
Not really a program that is useful.
I ran a scan via https://www.virustotal.com/ an none of the antivirus programs detected anything wrong in the executable.
But if you analyze a completely safe program they mark it as a trojan or something else.
Makes you think how correct these scans are !?

And this brings me to the real reason why i'm reading this topic,

Recently, the thought popped in my head, to have a shortcut at the Desktop,
to toggle between Airplane Mode and WiFi Mode.
The idea was to use only one shortcut to do this.
So i started to roam the web to find information about this spirited idea.
As usual there was not much to find on this subject,
and being very cautious when it comes to installing software on my pc,
i left the odd one i did found, for what it was.
So, also as usual, i decided to develop it myself.
Its working great on my pc with Windows 8,
so i thought, why not share it.
( If it doesn't work like it should be, let me know )

And yes, just like Brink's exe's,
it's also flagged as a trojan and some other blah blah blah.
But as i've already said,
i developed it myself and i know for certain that there isn't any malware code involved.
As a matter of fact,
i really can't see why such code is flagged as a trojan or any of the other malware-stuff they claim it to be.

It works also with keystrokes and does not install anything on the user's computer,
except for creating a shortcut which icon changes, according to the set mode.

I advise to read the Readme file for use of the executables.
One is to have a shortcut in a folder of your choice.
The other is for creating a shortcut in the Quick Launch bar,
this one you need to place in your User Profile Folder before you click it.

It'll probably only work on windows 8 and maybe 8.1,
I only have Windows 8 and that's the end of the line for me what Microsoft Windows concerns.

Thanks for your reply Shawn,

I had to update the executable SwitchWIFI.exe anyway,
because the created shortcut wasn't always able to find the exe,
especially if placed in subfolders, it's been fixed now.
So i'll remove the previous attachment, and upload the new one.

It'sWhat

Nope does not work, i can't attach a file to my post.
If i preview the post it's visible beneath my post, but when i submit my post it isn't there.
I don't see it, can anybody else see it ?
I think it's because i'm probably not allowed to post attachments.

WhatIs,

You uploaded your file, but you just didn't attach it afterwards using the paperclip as detailed in post #47 above.

There's no need for them though since the one's in the tutorial work just fine and are digitally signed.
