Adding Online Banking Icon to taskbar changes to IE Icon

Hi Sean and Medab1, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...it's been on of those days...

I have followed your instructions exactly and every time I end up with an icon that looks like a piece of blank paper. If I choose to change the icon it does not change and it does not connect to my Online Bank. Even using Medab1's favicon.zip icon as soon as I pin the Halifax shortcut to the taskbar it changes from the Halifax icon to the blank piece of paper icon and stays that way no matter what I do.
One thing I have realised is I have no favicon for the Yorkshire Bank, they don't seem to use one other than the IE icon.
I really have tried all your suggestions and I have done them exactly as you describe but nothing works for me...
Maybe I have some corruption somewhere on my pc or with IE...though the Windows 8 installation is only 2 weeks old and was copied from the official DELL recovery disks.

I would really have liked to get this to work for me.

I thank you for all the effort you have put in trying to help me...you have been superb...
I feel guilty at giving up on this after all your hard work but I have already spent far too much time on this.

Very many thanks...

Jan

"One thing I have realised is I have no favicon for the Yorkshire Bank, they don't seem to use one other than the IE icon."

Wrong.
The favicon I sent IS their favicon.
I snatched it from their source code.

They do not use the IE icon.

Try this link to get their favicon from their main directory :

The Halifax was used in my example , well since its my bank.

Is this your bank Jan ? Yorkshire Bank | We Care About Here | Personal Banking, Business Banking, Private Banking | Yorkshire Bank (It's Ironic that Halifax is in Yorkshire lol)

If it is , I just pinned it to my Chrome bookmarks bar and I get a snazzy Favicon :

So is the DISM command.
In my signature is a link to a tutorial on using.
It will fix things SFC cannot.

Just a note-- The shortcut needs to remain in one location.
I did mine from the shortcut on the Desktop.
If I moved the Desktop shortcut to say, My Documents, The link in the taskbar would not work.

If you don't want the shortcut on the desktop you could put it in My Documents first & pin it from there. :)

Another note-- Here is a link to the favicon in the post by Sean6027 :

Yes that is the link to my Bank. When I click on it my Bank login page opens but there is no fancy 'Y' Favicon...just the IE icon.

I am going to try "Sfc/scannow" and see what it finds and if that fails I will try Medab1's/David Bailey's suggestion...and failing that I will re-install the operating system and start again.

Thanks for all your help...I will let you know how I get on.

That's a nice nifty tool posted by sean6027 and if you follow the clear instruction by David Bailey you should
be able to pin your favorite web page in the taskbar. Unfortunately it seem that you have did something
wrong down the line. If you have not given up yet and still have the patience to try, there another way
of "Pinning Your Favorite Website Manually". No tool involved.

Here’s how to do it.

Right-click on the desktop and click on New > Shortcut.

Click the “Browse” button and locate the EXE file of your preferred web browser. Chrome Firefox or Internet Explorer

Leave a space (press the spacebar) and then type/copy the URL address of the website you want to pin.

Click next and name your shortcut....in your case "Online Banking". Click finish

Create Shortcut.jpg

The one in Black is the location of your web browser and the one in red is the URL address

Change to any of your prefer icon....drag drop to the taskbar.

Now it wouldn't show you "Pin to Internet Explorer" but it will bring you to where you want it to be. :)

You can delete the shortcut at the desktop once you have pin it to the taskbar.

Ok....that it....hope it works for you.

Try running :

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

in Administrator command prompt.
It fixes things SFC cannot fix
Reboot after running DISM.

Untitled.png

It takes a long time to finish
After you reboot run SFC again.

Hi, I ran sfc/scannow 3 times and each time it finished it said there were errors that could not be fixed. I was going to do a fresh install of Windows 8 as it is not such a big job when you have everything backed up and ready to put back. I will try your suggestion first and see if that fixes things...will get back and let you know how I get on.

What does this mean "Did you rep the person that helped you"

Thanks

Jan
