8.1 update: thank you all for your help -please read

been writing for help updating from 8 to 8.1 for quite a while -and those of you who have kindly tried to help me know I have been so tenuous about it ... but now the sudden death wednesday a.m.of my husband has changed things - i'm afraid to try the update in case things wouldn't go smoothly and i'd be without a computer -I now need it to communicate more than ever. w -so will i be in trouble without 8.1 insofar as my computer not being 'protected' without Windows updates? I have two malware programs and of course an 'internet security' program in place ..i know not to click on hyperlinks, etc. don't download much...... thank you in advance edythe

Edythe, my condolences, to you and yours.

As long as you don't use IE and use Chrome or Firefox for a browser, you should be ok for the time being.
I do recommend, if you don't have it already, to use MBAE(not to be confused with MBAM) Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, to protect yourself against zero day drive-by attacks on compromised sites. Morning - thank you for your kind words - i'm 'functioning ' right now on 'auto-pilot,' i'm sure ... i use Chrome, don't even launch IE. Would you recommend installing FireFox as a browser ''back-up'' ? i know not to launch both at same time. right now 'll hold onto your suggestion about MAE - Many MANY thanks ....

You can use Chrome and Firefox at the same time if you wish, I have both installed and run Chrome for music on YouTube, and I browse with Firefox.
