I have the latest version of 7-Zip on my Windows 8 Pro 64 bit system, but if I right click a zip file I do not get any reference to 7-Zip. How can I add 7-Zip to the right click context menu?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regards, Roy

Hello Roy, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Do you have the latest 9.30 alpha version of 7-Zip installed. It works great for me in Windows 8.

7-Zip

When you "Run as administrator" 7-Zip, you can click on Tools (menu bar) -> Options.

In the 7-Zip tab, check the context menu items you want, and click on OK.

Hope this helps, :)

Shawn,

I installed the 9.30 alpha version and followed your instructions regarding Options, and that solved my problem. (I did not previously realise that it was the 7zFM.exe file that you needed to run as administrator).

Your fast reply and help is greatly appreciated.

As a matter of interest, what are the other 2 .exe files for?

You're most welcome Roy.

The other .exe's are just to perform the other features when executed from within 7-Zip. :)

Hey,

just a quick note. Had exactly the same issue on Windows 8.1 Pro x64 RTM, never had this issue with 8.1 Pro Preview/RC version. It appears I have accidentally downloaded x86 version of 7-zip 9.20 instead of x64. As soon as I have installed 9.20 x64 after removing previous version, context menu reappeared.

Oh my, what a nightmare. Not just for me, for an entire forum/family that I belong to, lol.
The above issues have been my life for about 2 weeks.
I did just find out that I needed 64 bit for my Windows 8.1 I was directed to the 7zip link that you posted above. I think I've downloaded every option there; seriously.
I'm not super techy but I know a bit. Where/when do I get the option to "run as admin"? When I click download, an install Wizard pops up.
I'm feelin' like a drama Queen beggin' to be saved, any takers?
Thanks in advance!

In no way I was able to get the context menu apearing using above methods,
BUT
by reinstalling 7zip by running the installer as administrator, I succeeded.
