Program Plugin.exe is using a lot of my resources.

I discovered that program Plugin.exe was using 90% of my system resources. A search of the C: drive found 9 copies of the file -- all of different sizes. There is also plugincontainer.exe. They can't be stopped from running in Task Manager because they come back as soon as i delete them.

You have Firefox and have a lot of plug ins with it, believe this is where it may be coming from. Does it happen when browsing ?
    Scan for Viruses, malware ?

In my Task Manager the firefox plugin-container.exe (with a dash) is listed on the name line as "Plugin Container for Firefox (32 bit)" and in "properties" the file has the dash in its name. It doesn't seem to be consuming resources. The bad actors are plugincontainer.exe (no dash) and plugin.exe. Right now, plugincontainer.exe is using 92% of cpu resources.

I am not looking in Firefox but in Task Manager.

I haven't used any new extensions. This is a new computer and I have the same Firefox extensions that I have used on my old computer for at least a year. But my key point is that the files have different names from the names that Firefox extensions produce. I think I have a more serious problem. As a test, I will restart the computer and not run Firefox.

Run Firefox with option to Restart with Add-ons disabled, on Menu under Help. Run a Virus scan and malware scan as mentioned as files like this can be that. Google Plug-In extensions, Pluginextensions and Plugincontainer.exe the majority of results are Firefox or Virus.

I ran an experiment that demonstrated conclusively that Firefox is not the culprit. I restarted the computer. Immediately 9 instances of plugin.exe started running and one instance of Plugincontainer.exe. No Firefox loaded, no extensions loaded.

With respect to viruses, the computer runs Kaspersky Internet Security. An extra full scan each day at maximum settings.

I am not familiar with malware scanning software. What do you recommend?

https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/ Best one i know of, many here will agree. Kept asking about running your AV, as only other instance of this was virus, malware. Not all Anti-Viruses get everything, why good to use one like this just for scans.

Maybe another program, any games use plugins ?

Another decent one too SUPERAntiSpyware | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware!

    Thanks.
It has no games and only a few utilities that I have long-used on other computers. The one thing new that I set up is voice recognition. Its the utility that came with windows 8.1

This is a new computer. I bought it in March for my wife to use for voice-to-text, and had problems from the beginning. My difficulties may be due to the adds. They started right away. I can't stop the adds. They are so thick that they cover each other. And loud sales pitches. I clicked on an opt-out in one add and it opted out of 92 companies. (but I continue to get the adds)

The only two sources of files input were 1) the Kaspersky DVD and 2) the DVD that installed the external DVD reader. I am suspicious of (2) because it loaded and installed more stuff than seemed reasonable to install a DVD reader.
