    To Secure Boot or Not

So I have a Samsung SSD sitting around and I've been really bored so I ordered parts for a new system to stick that SSD in to. Parts are coming in and I also ordered Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I am a BIOS guy, but I want to install Windows 8.1 in UEFI to get my feet wet (and always good to learn new things, right?). But I came across some articles about this "Secure Boot" in the UEFI settings. I saw mixed reviews about the performance of this so I came here to see what the folks here think about it.

Does it speed things up or not?

I have some Z77 boards which do have Secure Boot, but they are disabled. But I am interested about this for this Windows 8.1 machine.

    The parts I ordered are:
    AsRock Z97 Extreme4
    8GB memory
    Core i7 4790

Looking forward to some responses. Thanks

Here's one thing I can tell you: Windows 8.1, by default, has the UEFI secure boot enabled. I personally think that secure boot takes less time. But that's not noticeable to the human eye. Secure boot just adds an extra layer of security by only allowing windows boot files to run. Making boot-kits complicated to run and get rid of. I'm assuming if you install windows 8.1 and the latest bios (Make sure everything is compatible!), Windows 8.1 UEFI secure boot will get enabled. Since windows 8.1 enables it by default.

Thanks MCplayer18. Looking at the BIOS in the manual for that board it does have the Secure Boot option (looks disabled by default though so got to remember to turn that on)

Also, thanks for the other advice.
