    Looking to Replace Norton.

    Hi All,

This is my first post here on the forum. I've been using Norton AV for the past year or so. Due to the fact that my internet provider freely offers it as a bonus for being a customer, but I feel that it's just way to resources hungry. Taking up much needed disk space, not to mention it's high cup usage and annoying pop-up's.

Would anyone be able to offer me any alternatives, when replacing Norton's bloated software. To help give my machine it's much needed protection?

    Regards.

As far as Norton still using a lot resources and high CPU usage, not so true nowadays as older version might of been this way.
Using Norton Security not causing me any issues or using a lot of resources or CPU, see here. As far as cost of it might not want to spend 40-50 bucks to renew it as many other AV out there that are good and cheaper. Norton does get decent rating on detection, i have no issues with popups as can be turned off, this is probably due to yours is also expiring.

The Norton software is provided free from my internet provider and as long as I'm a customer it doesn't expire.
The program is quite large and takes up valuable space on my SSD.
I'm basically looking to replace it mainly for that reason and for the reasons already stated.

O.k. i see, also stated about being resource hog which is a thing of the past, not sure what version you have now and how large your SSD is.
My Norton's Security 2015 takes about 347MB disk space. Some use Windows Defender along with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes | Free Anti-Malware & Internet Security Software

    Thanks for the links.
I do have Malwarebytes installed. I'm also having trouble understand the comparison charts given on the AV-Test page.
Nonetheless, there are a lot of users that highly recommend the use of Avast along with Malwarebytes. I was considering going that route to replace Norton.
Would this be something that you feel could be a good alternative to Norton?

More dots the better on AV Test page in each column. Not sure about Avast, used BitDefender once, pretty good on space and resources, just screwed up my system restore.

I see... in that case Windows Defender has most of them beat.

On the other hand, maybe I'm being a little hasty in wanting to replace Norton. i have been using it for over a year, with not a single issue. Except the amount of disk space it uses.
According to the AV-Test charts, Norton has very low scores.

Having good internet surfing skills, as well as being cautious about what and where files are downloaded. Has much to do with ones computer security.

BTW... I see that you're from NY, I was born and raised in NYC/East Village. I miss it very much, nothing compares to it.

No, Avira, Bitdefender,Norton and Kapersky more white dots the better. That is key, being cautious about downloads and links you click on. Can't run 2 AV's at same time as may and will be conflicts, run Malwarebytes as a scanner along with Windows Defender as realtime protection. Again what year version of Norton A/V ? North of the city, raised in Westchester county. Yes, N.Y.C nothing can compare to it in many different ways
