Can the useraccount I use to visit websites be seen?

    Hi,

recently I was wondering what info my browser/computer is showing to the outside world. Can for instance the useraccount I use to visit this or other websites be seen by others? Or is this hidden from view for others?

    thanks!

Excessive usage of online account can be seen by anyone.
for example copy/pasting your user name into search engine will reveal all your browsing habits.

If ur talking about *Local* Windows account, then no it can't be seen unless ur machine is compromised.

hi, that is an adequate distinction. I was talking about the local Windows account. Whether it can be seen online or not. And I was also wondering about my computer name. So you are saying that these should not be leaked by my browser?

Computer Name is visible withing Local Area Network only, however other computers on LAN might get compromised and so your PC becomes easy target.

Browsers in this context can't see anything except your cookies, browsing history and similar, but are easy targets and have constant access tru firewall, so there is no simple solution. ( by default your local username is not visible )
By default local username is not visible not even in LAN by default.

If you're concerned about browser manufactures such as google or firefox being able to see your stuff, the answer is yes, they can do whatever they want if they decide to do so, that's why you should never surf with Administrator account or let them ask you to install browser into program files..

Use local account, and have UAC enabled.
Always Install Browsers in user mode, that is into %appdata% not into program files.

    Hope that helps you.

so when I install Firefox, I should change the folder to anything else right? i dont really have to use %appdata% right??

Go to Gibson "Shields Up" website. https://www.grc.com/shieldsup If the website recognizes your account (by Name) you are not protected. They have a free test (I've used it may times in the past) that does a good job seeing how well your internet security is setup.
