Solved Dell Insprion came with MCAfee; want to use Windows Defe

Just got a new tower PC -- Dell Inspiron. It comes with McAfee and Windows Defender. I looked at Windows Defender and it said that the Overview Settings are being managed by the vendor McAfee.

Is it possible to separate these two? I'm assuming but haven't seen details that McAfee will shortly ask me for money. There's been no indication that the McAfee is a trial offering.

I'm afraid to uninstall McAfee just in case the two are now somehow married.

if you have McAfee running then Windows Defender will be disabled by Windows.
McAfee is Junk IMHO. To uninstall it, you'll need to download the special uninstaller from McAfee site to completely remove it from your PC.

I didn't remember about the special uninstaller. Haven't had McAfee for years. Now the memory is returning.

The two are not married , as you put it. You can uninstall McAfee and when you reboot Windows Defender will automatically take over.

My Lenovo came with McAfee too, the first thing I did when I plugged it in was to uninstall it.

Yes, McFubar will ask you for money in a short time. Some people think McAfee should be classified as a virus.

Be sure to use a uninstaller when you take out McFail.

After uninstalling, it might be a good idea to d/l CCleaner (The free version will work fine) & do a scan to clean out any orphan files/reg keys. When cleaning your registry, you will be given the option to save the deleted keys should anything go wrong due to removal. Save them to a easily accessible place (such as desktop).

McAfee appeared to be completed uninstalled. I was setting up this computer for 3 folks who would be sharing it, so I was setting up 3 separate accounts. With each account, the tile for McAfee appeared with all the default tiles. A bit confusing at first, but I simply used the uninstall to remove the tile. I didn't see any McAfee programs actually installed anywhere.

This Dell also came with tiles for eBay and an Adobe product and the Desktop had shortcuts. I removed them using the Administrator account before adding the 3 new accounts. Again these showed up with the default tiles when setting up new accounts.
