    UAC Question

Is there any way to not have UAC pop up every time on just certain programs that you use all the time and know they are safe?

You can make a shortcut which adopts the authority of the built in Administrator account using the runas command. You need to enable the built in Administrator and give it a password. Your shortcut will prompt for the built in administrator account the first time it is run but then remember it and you can then run the program without UAC or password prompt by clicking on the shortcut you created.

I use option 2 from here Elevated Program Shortcut - Create for Standard User - Windows 7 Help Forums

Other than that no; no ad-hoc exclusion capability exists. You could turn off UAC completely but that wouldn't be terribly wise.

Unwise or not, I've completely turned off UAC on both of our laptops. Got tired of explaining to the wife why it came up all the time when she was doing her work. With nary an infection in 20 years of using the internet, I don't think our surfing habits warrant such "protection."

Unfortunately not - that is setting a shortcut to run as admin. You'll still get UAC prompt. You need to adopt built in Administrator authority as described in the tutorial.

Interesting anecdote. That wasn't the question though.

When I run CCleaner, It skips UAC. In Startup -Task Scheduler, It's listed as SkipUAC CCleaner.exe $(Arg0). I have no idea what that means. In Speccy, there is a check box to skip UAC. How do they do that?

There are a few 3rd party utilities that indicate they can tweak UAC to perform to your liking. I don't remember where I got 'em, not at home, can't look 'em til I get home. However, any additional utility added to Windows Prime adds a if even a tiny bit of overhead [resource-usage].
