Any computer that is attached to a network is not immune to viruses. But, as with everything else, it's relative.
While Ubuntu (and Linux in general) is a very secure system, and Ubuntu comes with no "open ports" (that means avenues by which worms can get into your system without your assistance), there is always a certain danger from malicious software.
There is Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware software for Linux, install configure, and keep them updated as you would a Windows PC.

Also there are lots of differant flavors of free Linux, so if you do not like Ubuntu you can try another.

i am not concerned about the linux pc.

i am concerned about the linux pc infecting the windows computers on the network.

i don t care about the linux pc because i can reinstall free of charge as many times as i like.

i am just worried that the linux ubuntu pc will attribute to other pc's on the network getting infected because the ubuntu pc is allowing virusses or malware to get to the network.

thanks

The Linux system will have no more of a possibility to infect your network (actually it would be less likely) than the Windows systems would.

Just install and maintain Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware on the Linux system as you would the Windows PC.

The only problem with that is an AV for Linux are on demand only because they need to be run as a superuser(Sudo). The OP just needs to keep his windows AV updated. and if sharing files from Ubuntu to Windows he can scan with Clam AV, Bitdefender or whichever BEFORE sending to Windows, Otherwise it's no more safer or more unsafe than a Windows to Windows set up, or using an USB with music files from a friend.

Newer Anti-Virus software like Comodo Anti-Virus for Linux has a real time on access scan and scheduled scans

Cool, I just learned something new. Then that is very useful. I know because I use Ubuntu for those sites I'm not too sure about(Like when someone warns about it being an attack site), or if I'm really in a "Tin Foil Hat" mood just a live DVD. But for a network that's a pretty good thing.

I have never seen a virus in Linux and I run a lot of Linux web activity. And if there were a Linux virus, it would not work in Windows.
