Permission to run a program

Windows 8.1
In several of my programs, when I click on their shortcuts to start them, I get a popup asking if it is OK to let the program make changes to my system. I understand the reasons for this, but only the first time a program is started. Is there a way to tell Windows this is a trusted program and you don't need to warn me every time it starts?

I don't know how to reenable "first time" status to a UAC prompt for a particular program. One thing you may try is to reinstall a program that triggers this prompt to some location other than C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) such as C:\MyProgs, if you are the only user on the system. This can also get rid of the need to run programs as administrator that write .ini file settings in the same folder as the exe. Windows now protects the program files folders.

It's worth a try. Just try reinstalling one program to make sure it will work. I'm just guessing. :)

Would running these program exe files as administrator prevent the popup?

I tend to doubt it. Turning the UAC down is the only way I know. If it is hairy to move the programs you could experiment with something smaller that triggers the prompt. Then move the small program to a new folder directly under C: and see if it avoids the UAC.

Turning the uac down is not a good option for me. So I guess I'll just live with it, but it's a shame Windows doesn't have a way to remember previously approved programs.
In Android, apps that need root privileges ask for it the first time and when approved, remember that setting until a new app version is installed at which time it asks again. Seems sensible. That's why I thought Windows might have a similar method. Ah, well. It's not a big deal.

Everywhere I looked the discussion came to the same end.. if there was a "white list" avoiding UAC the malware would put itself on it or disguise itself as a program on it. Seems to me encrypting the white list should avoid those problems but I'm not one of the developers so what do I know? :)

Hello,

MilesAhead is correct here about moving the program to a different directory. Running a program in either of the Program Files directories requires Administrator privelidges, which triggers UAC. This will work for the majority of programs, but if a program needs elevation to run properly you'll be back to square one.

Thank you MilesAhead. I believe I have done that in the past (reinstalling in a different location) and that stopped the alerts. I just forgot about it.
Thanks.
