Currrently any way to get MSE installed over Defender?

Just curious, because I prefer MSE over Defender due to the fact that MSE provides a lot more information on it's UI and it also gives a notification area icon and right-click scan menu option...all three of which Defender doesn't offer/do.

Is there anyway to get a notification icon for Defender like MSE has, that shows color coded status?

Control Panel | Windows Defender is where its all at. It's a set-it-and-forget-it type of thing, like malware protection should be - out of the way and out of sight.

Well I meant notify icon like where the network, volume and time are located. I'm one that likes to see things running...to be sure they are running. :P

But anyway, I decided to give the CIS beta a try over Defender and it seems to be working good now...so thread solved. :P

    Thanks.

    You're welcome.

I'm seeing tons and tons of issues with 3rd party security. Maybe CIS is alright, but if you start having freeze and/or bsod issues, look at that as the first likely culprit.

Maybe it doesn't do quite the same thing as the tutorial, but all I did, when I initially installed Windows 8, was turned off the two windows defender services - seemed to do the trick? Since getting wise to the changeover, I have reinstated it.

I don't disable and leave Defender running, but if I wanted to disable it - this way you posted is my preferred way. No sense to have the services running when Defender is not actually being used.

    So +1.
