Go ahead and post screenshots showing what you have at each step in the tutorial to see if something may stand out as the culprit.

I don't see any issues with your settings.

It says it cannot find the file specified to run for the task. Double check to see if you have the file below. Did you move your "Program Files" folder to another location by chance?

    C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe

    Hi Brink

I have found the file you told me to check, I clicked on it but it will not stay open and their is no .EXE on the end of the file.

If you don't know, then most likely you didn't. It's for say moving your "C:\Program Files" folder to be on say the E: drive instead.

I'm not sure why it's not working for you, but as a test, see if the scans from this below work for you. It uses the same command as the task, but using a context menu instead.

I've read that you used to be able to go to Tools > Settings in Windows Defender and schedule periodic scans. However, in Windows 8, the Tools menu is gone! I see nothing about this in the Settings section. I've also tried to set this up in Task Scheduler, but I don't know the proper command and...

It seems like I remember MSE under Windows 7 scanned downloaded files and showed a brief message sayint that after the download. Since MSE is not in Windows 8, I wonder if Windows 8 scans downloaded files and Outlook emails? Thank you.
