In your first post's screenshot the task show a "The parameter is incorrect" error. This usually means that the command was entered incorrectly.

Later in post #5, your task reported a "The system cannot find the file specified" error, which would be for the MpCmdRun.exe file.

Since the task and context menu use the same identical command, the test was to see if there was an issue with your MpCmdRun.exe file used by the command to run the scan. Since the context menu works just fine for you, that rules this out as a cause.

Is your computer turned on and running at the time the scheduled task is to run?

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
The context menu is working fine, but it is only allowing me to i.e. OPEN/SETTINGS/ UPDATE/UPDATE and QUICK SCAN/QUICK SCAN/FULL SCAN.
It is not allowing me to do a scheduled scan.
When I found the MpCmdRun.exe file in the windows defender menu it does not have .exe on the end of the file, [see attached] and
when I try to open this file it flashes on and off, it will not allow me to open it for me to read, should this happen.

That's correct. The context menu is not for a scheduled scan. It was only used to test to make sure that the command would work on your system.

The MpCmdRun.exe file can only be used with command line.

Not always. I find it best to set the schedule to run the task when you will have the computer running for the best success.

If you like, give that a try to see if it will run when scheduled without an error.

    Hi Brink

Tried what you said, still could not scan.
I dont think this problem can be solved, so I will have to just scan manually.

I would like to thank you for all of your help and patience, this has been very much appreciated.

I'm out of ideas for why it's not scanning on a schedule. At least you have a manual option for now.
