Hi guys,gals
I have been having some trouble with my windows 8.1. I have picked up a virus on my hp lap top, I have only had it 4 weeks and I installed the recommended mcafee live safe. I tried all the usual tricks to get rid of the virus but to no avail. I have done a factory re set and it still looks like I have the virus. When I go to load up a web page I get nothing but spam and then proxy server 127.0.0.1:50308. Any ideas I would be very greatful
thanks in advance

a full factory reset should have gotten rid of it ,unless you are installing a App/Program after the reset that has the virus in it

Hi there.

If a FULL FACTORY RESET didn't cure the problem - get a complete new recovery disk from HP - or simply take the laptop back - if you've only had it for 4 weeks.

A full factory reset should do exactly that - if there is STILL a virus on your machine you could probably argue successfully in front of ANY court on the entire planet that either the computer HAD the virus to start with or is NOT fit for purpose and should be replaced or money refunded.

Cheers

If you haven't done a scan for a rootkit, then you may want to do that. Rootkits can survive a reinstall because they write a hidden boot partition which doesn't show up in the disk manager. In order to destroy them you must wipe the entire drive or use a rootkit tool to ferret them out.

As Nuccii recommended, D/L & run TDSSKiller.

When running TDSSKiller, launch the program, click on the blue text "Change Parameters" & check the box marked "Detect TDLFS File system." Click OK & then run the scan.
