    Can't Disable Defender

I found 2 services related to Defender.
    -Windows Defender
    -Windows Defender Network

When I open the properties, all the options are blanked out.

    Hello Crimsom,

If you like, you can use the method in the tutorial below to turn off Windows Defender.

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

If you have a 3rd party AV program installed, then Windows Defender is disabled by default.

Ya I already did that. I was trying to disable it in the services. There's no way to turn it on or off. I'll try to see what will happen if I turn it back on.

You can do it only through registry. I already posted it, but someone removed it? So here is an image only.
Go to the corner and choose - Run - regedit - find the 2 paths in the picture and change Start - dword to 4.

Thanks, but it didn't work. The default values for both of those were 3. I changed them to 4. I restarted. I checked the Services, and it was the same thing as the image I posted at the top. The values are still set to 4.

Run the sfc /scannow command, you may get your controls back if you had corrupt system files.

Uninstall Avast and Online Armor, one of them could be interfering with the controls. I would say that Online Armor may be the culprit.

OK. I've been thinking about getting rid of Avast. But I need a firewall to block applications from accessing the internet. Like MS Word or any Adobe will try to access the internet for everything even though I'm doing a completely offline project. If I'm writing a grocery list in Word or editing an image in Photoshop, why the hell are they trying to access the Internet? And Windows Firewall won't block anything from Microsoft, so it's useless.

Have you set Windows Firewall to control oubound as well? It is disabled by default.
You can also use something like Windows 8 Firewall Control: Sphinx Software
