Solved Window defender what have they done?

Hi,Looking at my new windows 8.1 acer laptop.
Cant get to see the icon near the clock of the MSE in my windows 7 there was a little green looking house there,Cant find it here.Yes I do have MSE installed.Been reading about this and it don't look very good for microsoft 8.1,On some sites they are installing other anti virus's instead of the windows defender what happened to microsoft security essentials??

Hi there. It's not MSE unless you installed it. It is Defender integrated at kernel level. It is now in Services and is automated.

AV forum gurus report that it is sufficient for home use. Business would be a different scenario.

MSE is no longer available on Win 8, 8.1 It has been replaced by Windows Defender.

Ooooops sorry so used to windows 7 Should have said windows defender.
So you think its all okay to run the only hitch that it don't have that green icon by the clock to show that all is okay with it and there is no scheduled tasks with this latest one.

Just as Start Screen > Charms bar > Settings > Help has general OS help, each app has its own help files/page via its Charms bar.

using the windows key ,go to start screen ,on lower left of the screen you will see an arrow pointing down ,click on it its takes you to All Apps, look under "windows system" section ,and you will see the windows defender icon ,right click on it and choose pin to taskbar ,works for me ,all I use for security is windows defender and malwarebytes pro ,works ok for me so far .

I added some words in above post to try and make it clearer. Charms bar is the menu that slides out when pointing in the lower and upper right corners of the Start Screen and any Modern/Metro Store app (or use Windows key plus C). The bar at the left that slides out when pointing in the upper left corner is the Switcher bar (Alt + Tab). Pointer in the lower left corner slides up the Start Flag when in an open app, even on the Desktop. That returns to Start Screen or Windows key does same. Right click that flag for Power User Context menu (or Windows key + X). Those are all Hot Corners.

Each Modern/Metro*Store app has it's own help page that opens in a browser when using"Help" in their Charms bar.
