CNET attacked by Russian hackers, user database stolen

July 15, Help Net Security – (International) CNET attacked by Russian hackers, user database stolen. CBS Interactive confirmed that media Web site CNET was compromised after attackers claiming affiliation with the Russian hacker group W0rm stated that they were able to obtain databases containing usernames, emails, and encrypted passwords for over 1 million users. The attackers stated that they used a flaw in the site’s implementation of the Symfony PHP framework and claimed that the attack was performed for security demonstration purposes and the information would not be sold. It was time to give Cnet back what they've been doing to their users last couple of years. Used to be my favorite source of programs and news but now I would not even open their site any more without a bullet-proof vest that is.

    Hi there

Well done to the Ruskies --CNET downloads always were riddled with ad and cr@pware -- the real download was so hidden amongst all the other garbage that invariably people downloaded unwanted toolbars, trial ware spy ware or worse. If CNET NEVER comes back I for one won't miss it one teeny little bit.

Good riddance is all I can say.

    Cheers

That's right, I use Major Geeks now as data base for new programs, hope they don't get corrupted too.
