    Avast won't install

So I downloaded Avast today and I keep getting this error message

"Fatal error: current avast! installer is not trusted by avast! Self Defense module. Try to launch the installer again."

I called avast and they said sounds like an infection but I had just done a fresh install, nothing pirated on this computer. I had done a scan with malewarebytes pro and defender and nothing found.

I also disabled both for the installation and still same error, any suggestions?

Temporarily uninstall MBAM using the removal tool, reboot. Then install your AV, and get it updated, configured, activated, etc.
    Reinstall MBAM.

Thanks, worked like a charm. I didn't realize Malwarebytes had to be uninstalled and cleaned out.

What I did find funny is when I was talking to the avast tech support they said I shouldn't run avast along side malwarebytes. I told the guy I never heard of that and he kept saying you should only run avast.

Only 1 antivirus program should be installed.

Glad you got it sorted out.

From what I am seeing in their forums, the general opinion is that it is only a ploy to get you to buy more of their products. It does not happen in all systems.

I am sure of that, I just told the gentleman on the phone that I have ran Malwarebytes on my PC next to Anti-Viruses for years and I will continue to for many years to come, well maybe as I seem to be having a lot of problems with Malwarebytes in terms of application stability since they updated the look but that is another thread topic here soon.

It used to be that MBAM played well with other AV's, running alongside with no problems. However, since the latest new version came out, I've seen a few posts saying people were having various problems. Disquieting to think that there may be problems ahead, since MBAM is a nice added layer of protection.
