Free malware removal software

This discussion reminds me of my response when explaining why I use several security products and methods. In your home, you lock the doors and windows, perhaps have a burglar alarm and have a fire extinguisher and a smoke detector and motion sensor with lights. Each of these devices does a slightly different thing to protect you, either proactively (door locks) or responsive (fire, smoke and burglar alarm). Multiple layers of security is your best approach (firewall, AV, anti-malware and SAFE web use). One solution will not cover everything...

This is part of the reason why I use Avast Internet Security is for a secondary Firewall.
You need to understand, what the firewall does. Basically it blocks an inbound and outbound traffic.

An inbound traffic is not an issue, if you have no applications, which would keep ports opened or listening. There is no difference between closed or stealthed ports, it is simply put like all doors closed. And even if there is a software like a torrent application, only a vulnerability within could be used to get through it. And for the funny part of it, if you allow software in a firewall, it is like having no firewall at all, so why bother?!

An outbound traffic is a problem, only if you run untrusted/unsafe applications or if you have an infected computer, but since it is almost impossible to infect a computer, so not a problem, at least not for me.

very true, even though I don't know if I would go as far as saying as using multiple anti viruses ( for example using McAfee, Avast, Titanium, Defender, and Webroot) all at the same time. It would be pointless and more likely to prevent one of them from catching something that it should had then anything else. Using products that look for separate things on the other hand is a great option.

Yep, only one AV, one firewall, one anti-malware, etc... I would not recommend more than one product running at the same time for the same functionality...
