Trend Micro blocked the pages from being opened , if I forced it to open the pages , it deleted the files as soon as they were written to the drive.

I use no realtime AV and I passed all of them as well, more or less. My browser has an inbuilt Kaspersky to scan downloaded files, so it blocked 1 and 2 and it also blocked the phishing page and since I do not hide extensions, I could see, that the downloaded files were exe. Those exe files do not ask for UAC prompt, so they should not be able to make any significant changes anyway.

Chrome blocked all but #4. Windows Defender also popped up for #2. Nothing blocked #4. The only AV I have is windows defender.

Kaspersky stopped all but #5. I thought it had. But just checked my Download folder and there's nothing there. So Kaspersky stopped all 5.

Even worst. Click the "Awards" item on the left of the page. It has this to say at the bottom:

" The following products did not pass all of the tests carried out in 2013 and were therefore not considered for the 2013 AWARD: AhnLab V3 Internet Security, Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender and Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection."

Nice catch! never saw that before. What is sad, is that 1000s of people still insist to use that crappy AV Windows Defender because it comes with the OS and is free! there are many good free alternatives but people are just too lazy to try.

What's their reasoning? "I've been using Windows Defender/MSE for many years and never got infected!" RIIIIGHT, as if you were infected your computer will popout a message saying "Hi, I am a virus and I infected your computer" they would never even know that infections are lurking in their system because Windows Defender (which has nohting to do with actually defending LOL) will never even detect those viruses in the first place!

Some people only feel the need to have basic AV protection. That's the boat that I am in. I don't pirate software, I don't torrent, I don't download movies, music, tv shows. I've had MSE pop up a few times on sites visited, so it's stopped a few things. Scans with things like malwarebytes, spybot, superspywareblaster always come back clean. I'm not saying it's perfect, I'm not saying it's for everyone. But for me, it's good enough. It's certainly good enough to save me $70 a year or something on a product with better protection.

In most cases, when your computer "is" infected you know about it. Things pop up, fake AV scanners start, ransomeware popups demand money to release their grip, etc. In some cases they operate quietly in the background, but it many cases they are quite obvious.

I just upped my Avast Internet Security for another year for $30.
    Not bad.

If my math isn't too rusty that comes to about 8 cents/day.
    I think.
If I'm wrong, please correct me.

    I like Avast.
    It works good.
