i have been having this problem for a while now when i installed norton internet security when i first installed 8.1 clean install from disk then installed all updates from windows then installed norton. i had problems with norton where it would say control center white flag would say i had no anti virus but when i check it had norton. but today done a clean install of everything when i installed norton went on ok then after a while norton would not open at all when checking in control Center there was two firewalls going and two antivirus but norton would not open. after a while after clicking on norton it opened and started to do a check on its self but froze. been using norton for about five years and never had this problem. now is this a compatibilty issue with windows it self or is this issue between norton and windows deffender any helpful help welcome thanks in advance

Have you tried running the Norton uninstall tool?
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us...E2173D8D.4?entsrc=redirect_pubweb&pvid=f-home

Re-install after you have run the uninstall tool a few times and see if it works.

There does seem to be a lot of problems with Norton 360 and Win 8. Picked up on a comment form a user which summed it up "Norton and McAfee both royally suck!"

Many on here receommend either sticking with Windows Defender or using free version of Avast, all backed up by using the free version of Malwarebytes.

According to Microsoft Compatibility Center, NIS version 20.1 is compatible whereas version 20.4 is not on a Windows 8.1 system.

What version are you using? As for myself, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes is all you need and is what I use with no problems.
