Hi there
Note this is NOT Firefox's fault - just someone hosting their software.
I've often complained of sites MISLEADING users by having so many links and hiding THE REAL software they are trying to download -so ask them to take care - but some people obviously never learn
Anyway he downloaded Firefox and ended up with probably the most horrible piece of adware I've ever seen in all my years I've been handling computers -- a nasty thing called BUBBLEDOCK - every time he made a key stroke about 15 ads pop up in different windows all over his screen - (even when he's NOT using a browser - so even popup blockers are no good here). These popups also randomly appeared even when he wasn't NOT doing anything,
(Mods -- this isn't I hope against the ad blocker rule - it's just this piece of insidious software is SO horrible it goes far beyond any decent legitimate advertising business).
Even I gave up trying to remove all vestigial traces of it -- Of course my colleague didn't have backup either --- Well finally a good excuse for me to update his system from Windows 8 to 8.1 Pro with a totally fresh install.
So PEEPS : If you want to download anything (Firefox is OK if you like different browsers so it's NOT firefox's problem) ALWAYS CHECK THE DOWNLOAD SITE IS THE OFFICIAL ONE and not some 3rd party site. ALWAYS CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE ACTUALLY HITTING THE DOWNLOAD BUTTON, UNCHECK ANY TOOLBARS / SPECIAL OFFERS AND IF AT ALL POSSIBLE AVOID USING ANY DOWNLOAD MANAGERS THESE SITES HAVE.
(Sometimes it's not always possible but a legitimate site - say like adobe is OK - just beware of "unknown 3rd party sites").
I hope none of you ever have to deal with BUBBLEDOCK in a big way -- if you want to see how horrible it is create an ISOLATED VM - I'd suggest say WIN7 as you don't have to "pre-activate" and you can test for 30 days before activating - download bubbledock and see your system destroyed. While testing though isolate the VM from the rest of your network.
I wasted 4 hours with that rubbish.
Cheers
