    and I google quite well if I don't say so myself
    @caperjack:
    Are you implying that I should have googled to find evidence of your claim regarding Kapersky? Not gonna happen anyday soon! Thanks for that single link. The (presumed) expertise of the OP, as expressed in that thread, would make anyone stray away from Kapersky (lol). However, as so eloquently stated by Masterchef:

    I use Kaspersky integrated into ZoneAlarm myself, and it is flawless. Others that misconfigure things or have random junk software installed along with it might not have such luck.
    Good day to you.

    Hi Master chief,
    what's the magic behind Kaspersky integrated into ZoneAlarm?
    would you rate it above Bitdefender total security 2014?

    Windows Defender works really well. I would say it is up there with the rest of the AV software. The best thing you can do to protect yourself from viruses, etc. is to make sure Windows is fully updated, even optional updates. Make sure what ever AV software you are using is fully updated as well. Then create you a user account in Windows, make sure the account is a Limited account and not an Admin account. Always use the Limited account and this will help protect you from about 95% of infections plus don't open attachments, be smart online and what sites you go to. Also here is the info as well. I think Windows Defender does just fine as an AV you shouldn't need more than that. but i always have Malwarebytes Pro running just in case.

    Make the decision yourself here is some actual facts...

    Here is the source....
    AV-Comparatives Independent Tests of Anti-Virus Software AV-Comparatives

    Here is where you can get the research document they published....
    AV-Comparatives Real-World Protection Test AV-Comparatives
    Just click on "English" and it will open a PDF

    Page 9 shows actual protection rate and to no surprise MS scored the lowest however bit defender seemed to do well. I would still read the whole document as it is a good read.

    Edit: You can also track results monthly here

    I love how you say you are virus or malware free. The thing is that you are never sure if you are infected or not. The AVs only detect a portion of viruses. The user is the best anti virus. Be cautious while surfing and use common sense.
