(uninstall not just disable)
Hello,
now I realized that I'd really like to get rid of this thing for good. It's already disabled but it still occupies some space nd maybe it's part still running in background. Once I had some instructions about uninstalling Windows Messenger from XP by hacking come config file and showing the component in Add/remove Windows features dialog. But i don't remember how this was done. Now need the similar thing about Defender and Security Central and UAC if possoble.

Hello Anakunda,

These are all part of the OS and cannot be uninstalled. They can only be turned off instead. :(

Windows Defender:
It is recommended to have an AV program installed if your not going to use WD to help keep your system safe. When WD is turned off, it doesn't use any resources on your computer other than the bit of hard drive space for it's files.

UAC:

You can safely set UAC to "Never Notify" to stop most notices. It is not recommended to completely disable UAC in Windows 8 by setting the EnableLUA DWORD to 0 like in the red warning box in the tutorial below though. If you do, it will break all modern apps, and prevent them from being able to be opened.

Hope this helps some, :)

Sure I use another AV. And got that it can't be uninstalled. That's ok. But if it could, then I don't see a reason why to keep both packages.

LOL. That portable uninstaller might become quite popular. You might be able to remove the relevant package from the install.wim file before installing. We will have to see what Dino comes up with. He is working on something.;)

Although I am not using it, I would not uninstall it just because of few bytes saved on disk, it can be useful in case of other AV malfunction or troubleshooting problems with it. No sense having no protection at all during such times. It may not be the best AV out there but still....

interesting. An Uninstaller.
I would ask the OP though, if you are installing a free Anti virus package, do you find it better than Defender? The free programs do pretty much the same thing.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
